Thumbs up Who wants to be president of the PDD?!?!? $20 prize

$20 to the winner of the election!!

I was wondering if, for a $20 prize, you guys want to do a mock presidential election based on this thread...CLICK

Candidates choose your party. If there are two candidates from the same party, that party needs to hold a primary, unless you choose to be running mates. You can choose to have a running mate, or not to. But that running mate needs to be a TA member. You can make up your party and policies however you see fit. Or you could represent a real party, in America, or whatever parties are active in whatever country you live in..

This is how it goes down...

1. Candidacy Thread (8/14->8/31)
If by next Thursday, this thread gets a majority of "yes" in poll, I will start the "candidacy thread". In the candidacy thread, candidates will make their candidacy known, what party they are represent, and if they choose, who their running mate is. Running mates can be included at any time during the election. This thread will be open for 2 weeks, and then be closed. All candidates must provide a policy for all 11 policy categories. The minimum for each policy is just 1 sentence. So you don't need to spend hours writing a detailed policy. Everyone's policies should answer the 11 policy questions in this thread...CLICK...I WILL COPY DIRECTLY FROM THIS THREAD THE POLICY OF EACH CANDIDATE, SO MAKE IT GOOD.

2. First Round Election (9/1->9/30)
I will start the "Official 1st Round PDD Election Thread" after the candidates thread is closed. Here is where I post each candidate, what each candidates policies are, their political party, and their running mate. This first round will end with just 4 candidates. On 9/30/2008, I will close this thread and start the second round.

3. Second Round Election (10/1->10/20)
The second round will start after the close of the first round. Voters will choose from among 4 candidates who are left after the first round. This round will close on 10/28/2008. This round will end with just 2 candidates.

4. Final Round Election (10/21->11/4)
The final round will coincide with the US presidential election. Voters will choose from between two candidates and their running mates (if they choose to have one). It would be nice for the final candidates to have a running mate. Whoever wins this round, WILL BE ELECTED THE PRESIDENT OF THE PDD!!! YAYYYYYY!!!

I'm going to be pkcraistlin's running mate.

We agree on so many issues...especially on the need to return to the gold standard.

We just had a similar comp over at a pokerforum. The Anarcho-Capitalists won big. Not so sure that would happen on this forum but there would be at least one vote for that candidate.

Good luck!

I'll have a go, but I'm not a big fan of all this democracy rubbish

If I lose can I stage a military coup?

bwahahahaha!! That will be kinda hard considering you lefties are always trying to cut military spending in favor of social programs. And since you favor a ban on handguns, the citizens are helpless...revolution is impossible.

So, jerZ07002, do you think you could compromise on the skyscraper issue? We could be running mates

Just follow Chavez's example...

As a matter of fact, you can launch a coup. Start a "coup" thread, and if the majority votes in favor, the coup is done.

I dont want to be the bloody president, so I havent posted my points as a result ;-) I dont believe in a one-person ruling system. Parliamentary rule, bitchez!

EDIT: At least you guys should hold elections every few months to spice the forum up ;-) we dont want an authoritarian president for life

Also, holding PDD election campaigns, and actually using some of your political points in discussions too, to make it more realistic.

Yes, George, LMAO, coups are possible ;-) I'm very likely to support you in such an event

aww, it's for $20 !!

Even parliamentary nations elect a president or prime minister..

Ok, Founding Fathers, what model should our PDD government take?

but the prime minister serves at the will of the party, and can be removed at any time.

haha. i did my time with the radicals when i was a rabid socialist but ive always had a problem with the pragmatic/realistic components of socialism and anarchism in particular, but also libertarianism, and those concerns have not abated in all this time.

whilst i may agree with many areas of all those schools of thought, i still doubt their capacity to provide real, meaningful solutions.

i like writers like john rawls or john stuart mill more than i do someone like chomsky.

As president of the PDD, you have the power to reshape the government structure. You can be a Chavez if you want, change your title from President to Commandante or whatever suits your presidential whim. Just beware of the ever present threat of a coup, just in case you take things too far!

5 people don't want an easy $20!!

If you want to elect a President for the PDD section, I top the list of serious candidates.
