JBJ - "Buried Life" [Noise / Experimental]

Created another noise-fest for your guys to take in.

This one has a bit more form than the last one ("Interspersal"), and you can hear a few recurring sounds, so it might be a bit easier to assimilate -- although it still keeps you guessing I think. It's also a little lighter on the white-noise-like sounds, concentrating more on metallic and glassy stuff, so it might be a bit less harsh on the ears. Still, it's pretty abrasive so don't have your headphones turned up too loud when you press "play."

Samples used (in case anyone is curious):

The final note from "Llorando (Crying)", performed by Rebekah del Rio, original written by Roy Orbison.

A recording of a bottle cap being thrown down a stairwell.

A recording of the ticket vending area in a movie theater (big tall room with flat walls = nice echoes).

A recording of me monologuing kind of randomly, vocoded and otherwise transformed.

Reason bell and percussion samples.

Can I mangle little puppies to this song too?

LOL

J/K. I'll check it out when I get home.

Amazing use of samples! Nice one

Thanks.

I used a couple synths as well, primarily the Subtractor to make that kind of metal "ping-pong" sound and some of the staticky noises.

Ok, its night. The lights are off. I am alone. I got headphones.

The right mood is set, lets listen

Ok, for my taste theres a bit too much distortion/glitching in the first half.

I am really digging the last minute or so, its damn creepy. The singer sample is placed so perfectly, really, it sent some cold shivers down my spine. The other samples are used really well too, digging how you emphasized the quiet moments with creepy sounds.

Good noises, keep it up!

Thanks for the comments. I'd wanted to use that singer sample for years but never found the right place for it. But when I put it in this track it just "clicked" with me immediately.

I loved it refreshing to hear things coming in and out unexpectedly. Its like when you have been listening to EDM for 10 years or more nothing surprised you. Still pleases you but you always know when things are going to come in and out. This was a change

Yeah, one of my goals with my productions these days is to make them unpredictable and varied but still pleasant and interesting to listen to. Good to know that you feel I achieved that with this one.

I'm downloading this.

Before I comment...

I have this image of you standing alone in the middle of a movie theater recording shit and all these people staring at you like "what the fuck is this weirdo doing?"

Wow! I'm in a spaceship and seeing all kinds of things. There's an alien coming up to me from behind, and I luckily killed him with my lasergun. But than the alarm sounds, and more aliens come. I can't beat them all but I'm trying my best. I slayed lot's of them, but a few where to strong for me. Something hits me in the chest..... And I wake up .

Really nice sounding, I think it's really cool what you did with the samples. This is really inspiring on what you can do with just noise. Really really nice!!

LOL. I was just standing in the ticket lobby where the lines were, not in the theater itself.

I'm planning on doing an album that's a mixture of this kind of noise collage and ambient stuff similar to what I did a couple years ago, as those are the two types of production that come most naturally to me and probably the ones I have the most fun making. Right now I'm trying to strike a balance between unpredictability and "directionality," I guess you could call it: I want to keep people on their toes, but not make things so chaotic that they just tune out.

Here's the ambient stuff I did a while ago if you're interested:

I dont like the tracks as this noise stuff is to overwhelming

but i cant help feel you could put this into use by doing intros for dj sets if you know what i mean?

I mean that all the way through that track i was expecting a voice to start talking like the intro to a huge dj set.

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Aug-10-2008 19:37:

Heh, I wouldn't mind if someone used it as an intro to a set.

That would look just as strange.

My mental image is of you with a pair of headphones on, a backpack and huge fluffy boom mike, just standing there staring into space, as people walk past.

"what the fuck is that kid doing?"

Nah, it was one of those simple T-mics, and no headphones. The recorder is about the length of a cell phone (but thicker), so it's pretty inconspicuous.

I wear headphones when recording sometimes, but never in a highly populated area like that.
