The 2008 Perseid Meteor Shower Thread

So I went outside to collect my thoughts before bed about a half hour ago, laid down on my patio, closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Nothing would really prepare me for what I saw when I opened them.

One little speck of light flew past the corner of my line of sight, and instantly I thought I was seeing things. But then, in rapid succession another five or six zoomed past.. I don't think I'll ever forget those few seconds or the five minutes where I watched another 10 or so appear. It wasn't 'till I came inside and hit google that I found out there was a meteor shower for right about this time.

I've NEVER seen a meteor shower before, but I just figured I'd give a reminder or heads-up to those that can appreciate one of nature's wonders.

You must've seen the great Leonid shower of 1999. It's a huge shower we get every 33 years as we pass through an old comet's tail. It was awewsome for me, but didn't live up to the hype my dad expected, because they weren't as great as the ones in '66 and '33.

Don't fret anyways. The Perseids Jer saw last night, you can see them again over the next few days. The Perseids peak on August 12th of each year.

This is mother natures gift to me for my birthday
It always happens right around my birthday, and this year peeks on the day
I am hoping I can go somewhere a bit north to see it in its glory.

It is pretty much an annual event at the cottage.
You can see 1 each minute during the peak.
I will be out watching next weekend.
