getting signed + pirated programs

just a quick and noob question, in order to get a track signed, your vsts and such would have to be legit right? as in nothing pirated.

yes, from personal experience most big labels will have to come check your computer to make sure all you're plugins are legally registered before signing any tracks.

i can't believe that you're not able to answer your question yourself.

this days a lot of people just ask questions on internet boards without even thinking about what they are asking..

Posted by DJ Robby Rox on Aug-12-2008 00:20:

Label: "Wow, what vst did you use for that?.. sounds like Hypersonic?"

You: "No just Synth1"

Label: "Really?"

You: "Yep, all Synth1.. even the kick, snare, clap, hat.. I swear those aren't Vengeance"

lmao!

Want a straight answer? Here... It's a douchebag thing to do to make money using tools you should have paid for in the first place. Expecting money and saying the people who made said tools don't deserve their fair share is a textbook case of 'douchebaggery'.

It`s not that a stupid question, its stupid because there is no way labels have the possibility to check what you use to make your music, nor do they care either.

But the simple answer is, that you should never use pirated programs to make your music, people use them because they can.. but it will backfire on all of us.. Cubase 4 won against the crackers and more will follow.

But the overall mentality is the same as global pollution (what does it matter what I do, i`m just one guy.)

Personally, i think they should charge less for the programs and sell more of them.

It'd be interesting to see if that results in more or less money for the company. Let's say Cubase dropped to 500 dollars. For a lot of people, zero dollars still seems like a much better way to go than 500 dollars. So Steinberg may end up with a lot less money by dropping their price, since a lot of people expect to get everything for free.

Luckily, there are enough of us who care about the products we use and want to support the companies that create them. If we all pirated software, these companies would go out of business and there wouldn't be any further development, except for the freeware developers. It'd severely cut down on the number of tools we have available to us.

Cubase is not expensive, and u have plenty of other options like Studio/SL and SE, Sequel etc.

Logic is half the price it used to be, and i think alot of people are tempted by that, me included.

Look at Waves, you could buy 4 Access Virus TI`s for the price of one of their bundles.
Waves are one of the companies that could maybe gain income by lowering the prices.
Their products are expensive even for the biggest studios, they send spy out to studios to catch them using illegal software.
