Che Guevara

What do you guys think of him? Did he had a good idea? Or you think he was just full of himself?

Posted by Krypton on Aug-10-2008 17:47:

I think he was a radical leftist, and I believe radicalism for anything is dangerous for everything. But I would support his attempted overthrow of radical right wing governments, like Cuba's Batista.. of course a right wing government supported by the United States.

He was a dumbass.

General Batista was not a "radical right-wing" demagogue. he was just another a military strongman that people hated for various reasons...and wtf is a "radical right-wing government"?

Guevara was a dick. anybody that wears his image on their person should be kicked in the vag.

Batista was a brutal dictator, much worse than Castro. Guevara was Castro's right hand man responsible for killing the people that Cuban state considered to be enemies of the state. He was the executioner, so to say.

+1

I laugh when I see people wearing the shirt who are just totally clueless as to who the man really was...

I remember reading somewhere that when he came to Yugoslavia, he was always hung over and late for meetings with Yu officials because he always got drunk with hookers the night before

I never said he was a demagogue. The military tends to be on the right when it comes to military dictatorships. Batista is not different. A radical right-wing government is opposite of a radical left-wing government..sigh..it's not that hard..

Radical Right Governments
1. General Pinochet's Chile
2. Hitler's Germany
3. Mussolini's Italy
4. Shah Pahlavi's Iran
5. Saud Family's Saudi Arabia

Radical Left Governments
1. Stalin's Russia
2. Mao's China
3. Pol Pot's Cambodia
4. Kim's North Korea
5. Castro's Cuba

far right, radical right aren't very descriptive when refering to a government's political philosopies. in fact the terms can be very deceptive in that the very political movements that are responsible for siezing the power are equally and ultimately deceptive to the populace as well. like Hitler's Germany or Mussolini's Italy.

and yes, Islamic Theocracies and and Monarchies are radical right wing. i don't count them though.

Regardless of how you evaluate his life and perceive the choices he made, I think he's an interesting human being nonetheless. It is ironic thought how his memory has become a counter cultural icon (fuck, by this point it's not even counter cultural anymore), and completely been capitalized on by the same thing he was fighting against.

Che was an assasin. To all his fairness he did care about the people... but his actions were just wrong that evolved him as a full scale criminal.

There is something interesting about Ches death. There is some guy here in S Florida that was part of the CIA team to track down el Che. He claims that Fidel castro tipped the CIA on el Ches whereabouts, the eventually led to his capture in Bolivia. This is just a "claim". But it seems to be a very credible source.

you know that is not the first time I ever heard that...
some grumblings from cuban old timers I grew up around...

but just old man drunk talk ..... no substance..

Hilarious thread. I'm no Che expert but after watching Motorcycle Diaries I am curious at what point he turned into such a dick. He must've been a closet leper with an axe to grind.

Yeah, he was also disillusioned with Castro, the Cuban revolution and even communism later. He knew Castro before he became a person of power and influence in Cuba. Let's not have selective memory and make the man one dimensional. And yes, the CIA is responsible for killing him. He was a threat to "US interests" in the region.

So far as I've read, he's one of the few radicals that I can't even pity. I'd criticise his ideas, but for the most part, he was just a rebel for the sake of being a rebel. It's a shame communism came to be associated with this kind of guy, but maybe Hayek is right... it does bring the worst to the top

Actually, I strongly support the economic exploitation of his image. What better way to make fun of him?

No, he was rebeling against American imperialist, capitalism and neo-facism in Latin America. I'd hardly call that being a rebel for the sake of being a rebel. You'll never heard about how he would treat injured and terminally ill soldiers / gorilla warriors of the other side because it doesn't make for good pop-culture story telling.

Well, I used to be disappointed by people but I've come to expect an obvious manifestation of their insecurities now. Modern man is weak, and projects it all over the place.

Typical American, knows absolutely nothing unless Hollywood's done the film! Well you're a lucky boy cos one of the flag ship films at this year's Cannes Film Festival was a film about Che's revolutionary life (in two parts I think, one in Cuba and the other in S America) so keep an eye out for it!

typical closet Marxist, thinks Cannes got the definitive answer for everything.

your hero was a douche and Cubans have lived in a cage for the last 60 years because he was such a monumental douche.
