Have I reached Electronic Puberty?

Ok, to start off I have been listening to alot more (Dark)Ambient and Indo-rock.

The (Dark)Ambient I have been gettin really hooked on lately would have to be Diane Arkentstone, Delerium, and Cyberaktif.

The Indo-rock I have been listening to are: The Birthday massacre, 30 seconds to mars, Daft Punk, I dusted off my Crystal Method cd's, and I have been actually gettin hooked on Lunik.

My taste is slowly navigating away from Trance. Is this a good thing or am I just on the Electronic Dance music's perpetual roller-coaster of cross-fades between sub-genres?

I don't think you mean "Indo-rock":

Maybe you mean "indie"?

I dunno, but I think a lot of people go through what you're going through now. I'm pretty much bored of dance music myself.

A similar topic was discussed a while ago, although with regard to dance music in general rather than trance in particular:

There's nothing wrong with changing tastes, it happens to everyone. I used to listen to nothing but trance. I don't listen to trance as much any more. I've gotten more into house/downtempo/ambient/triphop.

If you like a certain type of music, then listen to it. Nothing wrong with it

as long as I dont listen to too much dark "minimal" tech house I'm good. Thats the one genre thats getting hammered way too much right now.

I'm on a deep house tangent this month

That doesn't make any sense, at all.

What this bloke said. 30 seconds and daft punk in one category? Really?

I listen to a lot of shoegaze, post-rock, gypsy punk. DJing, I cycle between degweed-style tech-house, schulz-style fluffy trance, and corsten-style energy trance. There's no "maturity" in EDM (besides realizing that DJ Alligator and the such are shit) and your tastes don't have to be related.

just keep listening, and changing bro. enjoy the ride.

Posted by La5eR on Aug-12-2008 13:27:

Yeah, sorry about lumping 30STM and DP together. My mind works in strange ways because Echelon has some synth stuff in it that reminded me of Daft Punk.

I should have separated the 2 groups out into their own musical genres.
30STM = Alt-rock not Industrial/synth-rock, DP = House.

By Indo-rock I do mean synth-rock/metal btw.

I occasionally crave something besides trance, but for the most part, I tend to notice that some EDM songs have lasting power and some don't. There are some songs I have that I've listened to for maybe 6 months after i got it and has already worn itself out, and then there are some songs I've been listening to for years and still have the same effect as when I first listened to them. It takes awhile before you start to realize which songs will have lasting power to you and which ones will fizzle out in a short time.

what?

i just listen to good music, dont care what the genre is

Posted by trewqy on Aug-14-2008 05:03:

You actually listen to 30 seconds to mars?

You fail in music taste. Seriously. That lead singer cant sing for shit, lyrics are too annoying and dont make any sense and its the same old riff over and over again.

Only american teenagers can like this shit.

The only thing worse than the current state of electronic music is the current state of rock music.
