Fabric owners unveil Matter club at The O2 Arena

http://www.beatportal.com/feed/item...t-the-o2-arena/ The owners behind Londons Fabric have revealed that their new superclub at The O2 arena (formerly known as the Millennium Dome) will be called Matter. The three-floored giant is scheduled to open in September and at 32,737 square feet it will be capable of hosting up to 2,600 patrons. And much like Fabric, Matter will encorporate state-of-the-art technology to create a futuristic dancing space. When Fabric opened nine years ago the club touted its Body Sonic dancefloor, which sent shockwaves up clubbers bodies thanks to its sub woofers beneath the dancefloor. Matter will use similar technology for its dancefloor which is being built by Djenerate to create a Body Kinetic experience never before felt in any venue the world over. Around 80 super powerful transducers on steroids will sit beneath the dancefloor, reacting to bass frequencies and pumping the sound through every dancers body. Its the next generation of Fabrics Body Sonic technology apparently. Visuals too, will play an important part in Matter. World class VJs Inside-Us-All and software specialists Pixel Addicts have been roped in to create a bespoke projection system that will effectively map the architecture of the building. The system theyre building will map every flat surface so that moving images can be projected in harmony with the buildings angles. Wow. The next gen nightclub aims to create a totally immersive sculptured visual environment. And, as predicted by Beatportal back in November 2007, Matter will be running river shuttles down the Thames to boat punters to and from the venue (Greenwich is pretty difficult to get to from central London) - theyve teamed up with boating company Thames Clippers. What about Matters line-ups? Matters owners are keen to stress that Matter isnt Fabric 2, so dont expect Fabrics cutting-edge underground electronic music DJs and artists to play at the venue. Considering its gargantuan size Matter will only play host to big live acts from electronic music like Booka Shade, Simian Mobile Disco and The Chemical Brothers, although no line-ups have been revealed yet. Inside Matter: Coming Soon Beatportal feels that Matter has the potential (at least on paper) to change the face of Londons club scene. With Turnmills, The Cross, Canvas, T Bar and The Key having recently closed, London is severely lacking in electronic music dancing spaces, and Matter might be the venue to give the citys nightlife a boost. Next week, well be visiting the building site of Matter and meeting with some of the people behind it for the inside scoop so stay tuned on Beatportal for an exclusive sneak peak. |

You're missing the part where they said it's not going to have underground DJs there. It's a club for the masses, providing watered down music.

| Originally posted by slingshot That's not the club itself. That's the arena. It's like a 20,000 seat arena ala the ACC. The club will be in part of it I guess. |

i also don't understand how they are going to make a profit from hosting only live events.
Do they plan on having a masive live act every weekend...if so thats impressive.
The dome was publicly renamed as The O2 on May 31, 2005, in a 6 million-per-year deal with telecommunications company O2 plc, now a subsidiary of Telefnica O2. This announcement, which presaged a major redevelopment of the site that retained little beyond the shell of the dome, gave publicity to the dome's transition into an entertainment district including an indoor arena, a music club, a cinema, an exhibition space and bars and restaurants. This redevelopment was undertaken by the dome's new owners, the Anschutz Entertainment Group, to a design by HOK SVE and Buro Happold. It cost 600 million, and the resulting venue opened to the public on June 24, 2007, with a concert by rock band Bon Jovi.[14]

I'm in London on September 19th & 20th and guess what?
Matter Official Launch
Matter officially launches with an opening night on Friday 19th September, as the Live Night welcomes Unkle (live), Late of the Pier (live), Iglu and Hartl. This will be swiftly followed by a Saturday night graced by one of the biggest club DJs on the scene, Carl Cox. Hell be bringing along Kissy Sell Out and Yousef for a party worthy of welcoming Matter to London.
More Matter Partying
The next two weekends will see even more big name DJs and live musicians taking to the Matter stage, ready to whip up a frenzy for London club fans. With the likes of Mylo, Casino Royale, Sasha, Micky Slim, Deadmau5, Chris Lake and Mark B all performing, Matter looks like its going to give the very best London clubs a very good run for their money.
