How doe's one get a podcast?

I was thinking of starting my own podcast soon. Problem is I dont know the ins and outs of the podcast business. How do you get one and what are the rules(It will be like ASOT btw)

Step 1. Buy server space.
Step 2. Record a mix.
Step 3. Title it "_____ Podcast 001"
Step 4. Upload to server.

Repeat while increasing the number in step 3 by one each time.

Congratulations, you have a podcast.

do I have to pay the artists though? Like lets say I mix songs by AVB.Menno De Jong & JPL would I have to pay them?

umm Im doing what Armin,Tiesto and Menno are doing.Putting it on itunes so people download it for free

Technically, you can't share your mix even if you're not selling it. Unless it's a DJ demo/promotion. Even then, your mileage will vary - depends on the country.

Yes, yes - but we both know that's effectively a non-issue. There are plenty of "podcasts" and promo sets out there that release regularly without label clearance, so isn't it a moot point?

A podcast is more or less just an idiotic name for a recorded set. It existed before some jerk started calling it PODcast. And now all the kids on internet thinks its some cool new phenomen.

Right click on any mp3 file on your computer, select 'Rename' option and add 'Podcast' to the name.. you have your own Podcast now ready to be played specially made for Ipods.

That's actually very easy and no money is needed. You just need to go to the Podcast Channel in the iTunes Section where you'll find a link like "Publicate Podcast". You enter your podcast URL and that's about it. (The podcast will be checked and 1-2 days later your podcast can be found at the itms).

While I agree Podcast is a stupid name, I think the idea is quite nice

the only extra feature podcasting allows is that if a user subscribes via iTunes or other such podcast capable player, new sets are automatically added when you upload them.
allows people to follow your sets in case you dont promote it on TA or perhaps they dont see the post
