[REVIEW] Paul van Dyk @ Pier 54 8.16.08

sick sick sick!!!! pics on the way reaaaallll soon!

full review tomorrow! but for now i gotta say that the venue was def. unique although it was really really narrow, but the sound was good and the atmosphere was amazing! the place was pretty god damn packed and one of the best parts of the night was that guy on the jetski who pulled up and was dancing to pvd lol

and it was great meeting kingchinc, d-murge (i think lol), kelly, and many more of you, plus hanging out with the old TA's haha

here is the WHOLE set as recorded by SIRIUS!!! its 5+ hours long

oh you sonofa motherless GOAT!

again it happened!!!! me and michi were there too!

Posted by LuNaSeA on Aug-17-2008 05:21:

oh yea, anyway, hated the music, the visuals were a billion times worse than winamp visual graphics but it was great seeing people i hadn't seen in 1-2 years from joey to brian, dom and ryan, greg, sergio, rory and caryn! wow, flashbacks!

I thought it was a really good set. He built it nicely over the 5 hours and finished strong. It was definitely better than the last couple times I've seen him.

I STRONGLY disagree. Venue was horrible. Sound was horrible. I left at 7:15pm. Made Events dropped the ball with this one in my opinion. One of the worst, if not THE worst, show I've ever been to. If I knew it was gonna be like that I wouldn't have even paid $10 for it.

unreal night, now i know why there is such a big fuss about him in nyc. i thought the sound was pretty decent, maybe it depended on where people were standing. it was pretty bad trying to get remotely close to the front, but what did you expect when its such a narrow pier. either way the nyc crowd are super friendly or at least they were this evening, and it was awesome to see everyone getting so into it. hope your parties are always this much fun, see you guys again some day!

You sir are an idiot.

But seriously, you may be the only one with this view...but what do I know

I was there. I had a great time...even by myself.

If anyone encountered an asian guy with a black collared shirt and cargo shorts, with a huge ass montecristo cigar, that t'was me

I'm definitely waiting for someone to post up the tracklist.

lol it was def fun chiling smack in the middle of that crowd with ya. It was all crowded around us but we made sure to make room to dance

it was an ok show...we did have a lot fun though. lasers and visuals were pretty awesome and it had been a GREAT day for the party. illest sunset evar.

I hated the venue and the setup (why oh why couldn't he have played at McCarren?!). The lines for the drink tickets booths congested the middle of the skinny-ass landing strip they passed off as a dance venue and considering the amount of people in the crowd, the bathrooms were placed too close to food vendors and the second set of speakers.

As for PVD, he cut in and out of his tracks too much. Or maybe that was the volume as heard from the middle-back. Predictable set, save the Motorcycle tracks, but overall, nothing to write home about. The sound past the first quarter of the stage was muffled as fuck to the point where the German vocals he played did not sound German. So disappointed.

Positives -- the weather, jet ski man, the PVD beam reminding me that PVD is still Gotham's favorite DJ!

the venue really did suck, no room at all if you tried to move towards the front. heck anywear that wasnt the very back you had literally no room and people constantly coming and going. pauls set wasnt bad but wasnt great.

I had to agree with you guys....VENUE TOTALLY SUCKED>i mean...sure its a new place and all...nice view of the city and jersey..but it was just way too over crowded.... very unorganized... if they did it at mcCarren will be shit load better.... his set was in and out.... which sucked... was he on crack ? i mean his set was nothing...special I couldve listen to his live sets I downloaded and it wouldve been even better lol....and the ticket for the drinks is ridiculous.... i waited like... 30 min just to get a drink. overall it was a fun night friendly people all over....even tho the venue was shit...we still made the best of it and had loads of fun~...

Wow I must be getting old... I'm SO sore lol!

Venue - boo minus. horizontal>vertical. I pouted when they changed Roseland from horizontal to vertical; but the setup there somehow allows for a little more movement. But the funnel effect going on in the pier was pretty nasty; made it quite uncomfortable. We kept relocating to the back for a little breathing room. The constant being shoved by people coming and going was enough to drive you insane. Sound mid-pier was a little odd; but we trained to the very front for the last hour which was beyond disgusting but the sound was GREAT. All my vids from mid pier; you hear more talking from surrounding people than music. The lasers off the buildings were cool; but I kinda expected bigger and better from made in the way of lighting.

The only venue pluses were of course, the scenery and the sunset; spectacular, and we couldn't have gotten a better day! That, and I never waited more than 10 minutes to pee; normally with made events I have partial kidney failure. Gave up on drinking though had one glass of wine and when I finished felt like I'd stuffed cotton balls in my mouth!

As for the set, I loved it; the day part best; I love when we get to hear him play different stuff. Mid to rear pier you couldn't really hear much aside from the bass and there were cut ins and outs (I realize some were to make the crowd sign along but a few didn't make sense)... not sure which of those were PVD and which were equipment.

Funny part of the night was walking 20 blocks up West side highway, finally finding a cab; hoping in to go 10 blocks the wrong way (had to turn around) and the cab breaking down in the middle of the intersection and James and random street men having to push the cab out of the intersection, leaving us pretty much where we ended up.

I remember the first thing I thought to myself when I got to the venue was "wow this is very narrow". Despite it being narrow, I personally don't usually move around too much for bathroom breaks or drinks, so I guess I didn't notice how congested those areas were.

I noticed that pvd was a bit selfish... lol...meaning that most of the vocal tracks by other producers that he COULD have played the vocals to, he didn't. I.E - In and Out Of Love - Richard Durand Remix. I was getting my singing voice ready to hit those high notes and he never delivered! haha.

New York City was also played like three times, dub/mix of the original, and super8 & tab twice! I have a broken tracklist that I'll post later - I'm sure gerard and others were keeping tabs so we can probably i.d. most of the tracks.

Uhh.... Kelly, Jon, Albert... where the hell were you guys? I only bumped into Meg and Gerard, Burak at the very beginning of the show. Were you guys near the huuuuge fight that broke out? I was like one row in front. That guy was crazy... made the fight at Pachita seem like childs play.

Oh well, glad the crowd got it under control... PVD tore it up, but I was hoping to hear more vocals. Also, when arriving to the venue i realized I lost my keys. I had to run back to westchester to pick up some car insurance documents instead of going to Love I'm sure that and the official after party were both a blast. *Sigh* Hope there's a third classic's night next year!

"The Boys Are Back In Town"...

I loved the atmosphere of the venue...mind you it was a really nice day...had it rained...it would have been horrible...the sound was pretty fair up front to the middle, but from the middle to the back it was too quiet...

I really enjoyed Paul's set...especially towards the end...and the NY track was CRAZZZZZY...

I remember everyone cheering for the dude on the jet ski...and laughing when he fell in...dude STILL JAMMED IT OUT even when he was in the water LOL

the lines for the bathroom sucked...that was my only real complaint

I think just how the day/weather was made a huge difference and personally i had a really great time...

Great meeting you Lyss and Drew and I had a blast with you Germain!!! and of all the places bumping into Euphoria hehehe

(PS....is it really Sunday already??? all that hype, and its fucking over bahhhhh )

Anyone with a tacklist?
Dom K.

Beautiful Things was a surprise.. The after party was crazy!!! Needs to feel, In And Out Of Love Richard Durand (Instrumental Mix), New York City (Super8 & Tab Mix), Time Of Our Lives, Born Slippy... so many great tracks.. PVD has definite crowd control.. he was very in and out but drops it very well haha.. looking forward to seeing a tracklist..

from what i remember i had a good time
the weather was perfect the venue was deff a nice change
pvd deff delivered great set
i did not like the sound, deff very weak need more speakers
i also did not like the position, setup and staff of the drink booths
the line was blocking basically all of the main floor when you tryed to walk past and when its sooo dumb you have to get tickets first then the drink and not to mention the retarted staff
i go up to the ticket booth and say let me get a ticket to get a white wine, lady goes "its more then one ticket"
my response "ummm ok so how many do i have to buy"
her response "read the sign"
like seriuously if you know how many tickets it is why are you busting my chops for lol

overall it was a good party

nice to see z,molly, lyss, drew + some other tas, and very nice meeting pvdobsession and kingchinc finally.. overall i had a great time. paul was doin great, perfect example of how a dj should build a night, especially liked hearing orange bill. as far as the venue goes....idk,i was in the front for a good portion of the night but it got 2 be a lil to much so i took a journey through seas of people which was not fun... pics and some videos later, tracklist pleaseeeeee

the venue was good & bad. i liked that it was a breath of fresh air after central park & absolutely loved the river views with jersey in front & a NYC skyline in the back. It was crowded, however, and the narrow are made it tough to move so you had to stay in one spot most of the night. I had a great time though, the music had some definite highlights. My favorite moment was Super8 & Tab's remix of NYC, thanks for ID'ing that guys I didn't know it was super8's remix but it was definitely melodic and nicely uplifting, which is no surprise now that I know who was on the remix job. Weather was perfect!

venue sucked..once u left the crowd u had to walk thru the lines of the food drinks and bathrooms which were setup horribly..made me realize how much i loved CP..perfect atmosphere and the bathrooms were away from everything..got so mad when i heard In & Out Of Love with no vocal..i was like Alex is def pissed too haha..good to hear GO's remix of Neo Love,Beautiful Things,Born Slippy,Helsinki Scorchin,As The Rush Comes..he was going a lil overboard with NYC..one time was good enough for me haha..O'Bir's remix of Castaway (the one that sounds like Aalto-5 for those of u who were thinking that)..there were alot of tracks on the tip of my tongue that i knew but couldnt spit the name out..saw hardly any1 haha and M E S S of the year award goes to Andrew haha
