Is Mathew Jonson - Marionette considered "techno"
Doombot and I were arguing over what is and isnt techno these days. He said the original mix of Marionette is techno and I think its progressive house.
To me it's definitely techno. Mostly because of the detuned synths that give this somewhat sinister atmosphere + a recurring harsher sound in the background.
techno for sure. It has nothing in common with prog house of any generation.
Techno.
Why do you consider it prog house?

| Originally posted by Beat Blog Minimal techno like Spastik or some of Robert Hood's work is fairly atonal, but traditional techno is generally highly melodic. Strings Of Life anyone? I would call this techno I think; in that it's not funky/rhythmic enough to be straight house, not dubby/deep enough to be deep house and not atmospheric and percussive enough to be progressive house. |
Ellen Allien is considered mnml isn't she? And Orchestra of Bubbles is obscenely melodic, Rotary

Techno can't have a melody.

If it had been made and played in Chicago rather than Detroit, we'd probably be calling it house now. Although, yes, Iplaywiththecapslockkey was being sarcastic. Techno can and often does have melody. |

| Originally posted by Beat Blog I disagree, I see it as fundmentally different to the house music I know from that era, although it obviously drew huge influence from it. That's only one example anyway; one I picked because it's the most obvious and recognisable. |
