external clock
Hi,
I need to connect my 2nd PC to my main PC via SPDIF. I'm just using the onboard sound on the 2nd PC and I don't know how to make it accept an external clock... SO, I have my main PC (Echo AudioFire) set to accept clocking over SPDIF, from the other PC.
Is there any reason why this is not a good thing to do? Is the clock on my onboard sound likely to suck ass and make this a bad idea?
mmmmm.....
i was told that regardless your really should use be syncing to the master device depending on what the situation is. True but im not sure about the jitter in this case. But i think its more vital that the slave recieve the timecode from the master else you may get glitches?
cheers
and good luck
cheap soundcards have usually really bad clocks and you'll have a lot jitter.
do you want to use V-Stack with cubase?
perhaps you can explain a bit more what you're trying to do. usually syncing 2 soundcards isn't the best way and if there are other ways i would recommend to do it different.
all my mp3s and movies are on my old PC (the PC i use for fucking around on). i just want to play them through my monitors, which are connected to my work PC. i could connect the headphone jack to the analogue ins on my soundcard, but the ADC/DAC on my old computer is shit, so I would really rather use SPDIF.
If anyone knows how to set SoundMax (like AC97 I guess) cards to get clock over SPDIF, that would be great lol. The control panel that comes with it has nothing.
ah well for mp3s this is no problem.. i thought you want to use it for music production.
actually then i wouldn't even sync the clocks.
