Swimming > Running?

Do you think the fastest runner is the better athlete than the fastest swimmer? Since swimming requires more muscles, my argument is swimming is more athletic than running, yet more people are excited about running than swimming. What gives?

Running is definitely tougher on the body.

running is tougher. point and case.

it would also seem that swimmers get a lot more help from technological advances (the new suits).

Personally, I think swimming is better than running! You use every single last muscle in your body and it's a lot harder!
Don't get me wrong I love running long distance but it doesn't beat out swimming!

I concur. Once, still very young, during my high school years I swam in competitive levels. Eventhough I was not the sharpest fool, I've never felt such an extended sense of 'pleasurable exhaustion' per se. But, When I run for five miles or so, I feel great but not as great as if I'd have swum four or five laps in an Olympic pool (I believe each are built using the exact same measurement).
