Psychonauts

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychonauts

I don't know how this game flew under the radar as much as it did back in the day, but it is a platformer every bit as good as any 3-D Mario.

Tim Schafer really did a great job on this - and it carries a lot of the same vibe the old Lucas Arts adventure games he worked on had.

If you haven't played this, find a copy - it's cheap ($9.99 at Game Stop, and I think $15 as a download on XBLA) - and play it.

If you're a fan of platformers, I think you'll enjoy it, and I definitely thought it deserved a second wind.

I've heard it's bloody awesome but never got around to playing it. Will pick it up cheap when I have time to play it.

That and Grim Fandango.

This pretty much sums it up.

That and I still haven't even bothered getting through tomb raider anniversary once(got it free with gpu), so if I'm in the mood for a casual game it'll be that first of all. Also kind've have far too many things to spend money on really.

Meh - it will age well (and continue to be available for free/cheap). If you don't play it now, keep it mind for later - it's the kind of game that will hold it's value for years to come.

Its just that the older you get the "Games you need to play" list gets longer and longer and you have less and less time

Posted by Fledz on Aug-21-2008 07:35:

Fuck we're all gonna be nerdy retired people, sitting at home playing old games

i definitely shall be looking at more platform games in the future though. i think my love for them might be rekindled. at least for a game or two.

I guess - I just know that the amount of times when I am both broke yet absolutely need something to play that I haven't played through yet is fairly high, so even though the "games I need to play" list is long, it still comes in pretty handy.

Edit: And for PC/Mac gamers, it's free on GameTap.

I heard great things when this hit store shelves back in 2005. It's too bad it wasn't received better. I hear its full of trippy effects as well. I'll have to take the dive at some point...

It is indeed very druggy.

good luck with grim fandango i had it working on my p4 with numerous patches for about 2 hours, and then all by itself the game went to shit.

not in any gameplay terms, but in terms of being a very very old engine and not happy with current technology. was ace tho...

i started psychonauts but never got into it sadly. i would like to try again, just like with Chronicles of Riddick on the xbox1, just cant be arsed to spend money on that stuff right now|
