iTunes alternative

I hate this program, it sucks the donkey schlong.

Is there any alternative for Mac similar to Winamp, keeping in mind that I'm not looking to synchronise an iPoo, just play music in a "playlist" format rather than the "library" format iTunes is so keen on?

What is it with people and their hate for iPods?

Looks gay, worse features, more expensive, worse interface, not as simple to use as other mp3 players, requires you to use itunes.

Whats with people and their love for ipods?

I've got a 3rd gen nano and i love how it looks, love the interface. Only thing i hate about it is that I'm forced to use itunes.

I did search google; I'm not that lazy.

I'm after some informed opinions that don't come from mac fanboys on dedicated apple sites.

Matter of opinion, worse than what, cheaper than some, interface is actually pretty damn easy and intuitive, wrong - you don't need to use iTunes at all.

I have an iPod Touch. Haven't seen anything anything better, unless you can point me in the right direction?

+1. A great piece of technology.

Any moron that thinks that you must use iTunes for an iPod deserves to use that piece of shit software. You haven't needed to use it for like 4 years.

Beat blog: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catego...X_media_players I have personally used MPlayer, VLC, and SongBird. Oh and of course WMP as I am on windows. I have always heard good things about Audion though.

Songbird is pretty wicked imo.

Unless it has improved in the last few months, it is way too buggy.

its been awhile since i used it (only did simple play list managing, and i liked the gui) and i didn't really notice any bugs, so i can't comment about this.

Yeah I haven't used it in a while either, but when I was using it for a short time, I wanted to kill it. The interface looks nice, but it really sucks.

iRiver is still cheaper, and has a much better interface.

And rockbox supports most of the iRiver players too!

Well, I think everyone has already said everything there is to say except it is quite obvious that you are talking out of your asshole and never actually owned an iPod.

Not really. He is kinda right. Supports 3 audio formats, uses a video format that has to be specifically for the ipod, etc. How much more locked down can you get?

Rockbox ftw

Actually it supports mp3, acc, aiff and wav. And quite frankly, why would you need more? I really don't care much for wma anyway.

As for the video format, there are several converters that will convert from virtually any format to iPod format in no time and with no hassle. Take videora for example, very easy to use and it's completely free.

www.videora.com

Never heard of Rockbox before, though.

Audio formats: Because AAC sucks. I prefer FLAC or OGG. Also, who every puts anything in AIFF and WAV anymore? Seriously. Go with better things out there that support tagging and what not.

As for Videora, yeah I know. I actually used it the other day and fucking LOVE it, but my point was that you shouldn't need to do that.

Oh and Rockbox is a replacement firmware for 1-5.5g iPods. It supports TONS of other formats and whatnot. here is a list of what it supports.

Yeah, you're right about the AIFF and WAV. Still I pretty much go with mp3s and don't really care that it doesn't support OGG and other formats. Quick question: isn't FLAC the same thing as Apple Lossless?

Checked out that link and it looks really awesome, I only wish they had a version for the 160GB classic so I could give it a try.

Yeah it would be nice if they had it for the classic, but they changed the hardware a bit. IIRC they are working on porting to the classic.

As for the other formats, it is because I prefer stuff that is less lossy, or in the case of FLAC, lossless, over mp3 or wma.

Also, FLAC has a similar target of Apple Lossless, but is not proprietary, has no DRM, etc.

i tried ephpod, mediamonkey, winamp, and none worked with my itouch

fuck itunes.

btw, the itouch is pretty cool for the first couple weeks, then the novelty wears off. the email and youtube features are nice but browsing is annoying. pandora is pretty cool too. videos sucky.
