RAM: Mushkin EM2-6400 DDR2-800 4GB
MAINBOARD: ASUS P5Q Deluxe
HARD DRIVE: Seagate 500GB 32 MB Cache
COOLING: Zalman 9500LED
VIDEO CARD: ATI Radeon HD 4850 PCI EXPRESS 512MB

lol it's overkill for what you're doing. But that's a really nice comp, how much did you spend about 1500?

Posted by r5a on Aug-24-2008 19:49:

Yep, it's really good.

Actually I built a computer very similar to yours, two of them.

P5Q Pro and two P5K-E and they are both solid boards.
Used the same case, no complaints. The fan is fucking massive lol 200mm.
Q9650, Q6600 and a E8400. no complaints with either 3. they are all wicked.

Mushkin ram is solid.

I'm not encouraged by the fact the first line refers to a CPU that doesn't exist - the Q9550 is a quad core, so I'm assuming the "Core 2 Duo" is the part that's in error rather than the "Q9550".

And I thought the normal practice was to ask about these things before buying them...

Anyway, it's fine, but so is pretty much anything you buy these days. The real question is what did you pay for all this?

Thats odd...

I just looked at my receipt again and it sais Intel Core 2 Duo Q9550 but when I search for Q9550 on the net it comes up as a Quad so Im going to call them up and see whats going on.

And yes I paid 1700 taxes in and thats including a monitor.

Shit, is that too much? lol.

EDIT: Its Quad...not Duo...the guy fucked it up when he was making the receipt. And he is supposed to overclock it to 3.6 for me.

Yep q9950 is a C2Q, which is wicked.

price seems a little bit high.. but not too much.

Well the thing that brought it up was the Windows Vista which was 120 I think...and 60 bucks for putting the computer together...a few other small details here and there.

Do I see two different CPU heatsinks in your list?

Thermalright > Thermaltake

And for the harddrive you should have got the WD6400AAKS.

Originally the guy was trying to sell me a 10,000 RPM Raptor 320 G Hard Drive but it was 300 bucks LOL.

Oh and I only see Thermaltake...where do you see Thermalright?

good cheap pc !

I would of gone with AMD CPU like the Phenom and u don't need 4 gig of ram.. My next pc has to have a SSD (solid state disk).. ssd's makes your system incredible fast

anyone interested in those intel atom cpu's I hear they use a very small amount of power. The battery life lasts like 12 hours.

Absolutely not worth it. You'll never notice the difference and you might end up making the system unstable or shortening the life of the CPU.

As for whether or not it's too much - that's relative to what you're going to do with it. Value-per-hardware it's not bad (there's probably a 10% commission in there), although $1700 sounds like a lot for web surfing when you can get that from a $500 Dell.

If you're going to be playing games, doing video editing, production, graphic design, DVD ripping, that sort of thing, then you need a beefier rig. For Facebook and YouTube and TA, you could have gone BOTB.

only idiots would buy those.

Posted by Dr. Z on Aug-24-2008 22:57:

I bought the same system, except it was quadcore AMD phenom with 2GIG ram, a GeForce and I paid $800 at canada computers. No monitor.

If I had the money I would buy this

Computer

well, maybe not what you were aiming for, but I built a "silent PC" with that zalman 9500 cooler, and I found it to be not so silent.

waiting for a scythe ninja to climb up my priority list.

Also, it cools my 6400+ OK, but not the temps are still high for my liking. (Bear in mind I use the fanmate to bring it to its slowest speed)

Which fan is that exactly? You're thinking of the bigger Antec cases.

Posted by I_Am_Vince on Aug-25-2008 01:29:

Where did you buy the computer?

Yeah it says you have a Thermaltake V1 CPU Cooler and a Zalman CNPS9500 or something. Those are both CPU coolers

Posted by malek on Aug-25-2008 01:43:

thinking about getting an HP with the q6700 and 6GB of ram from futureshop for around 1100$ without a monitor... anyone has one of these?

used to build my own rigs, but i can't bother to do that anymore... to lazy and I want a nice clean case (inside and out).

Because you'd be paying thousands of dollars for what effectively amounts to a fancy case?

Same goes for that Alienware garbage. You can build the exact same machine for a fraction of the price. If you're not technically inclined, you can pay someone else to do it for you, still for a fraction of the price.

Posted by VERTiG0 on Aug-25-2008 02:14:

$1700 for that? Holy FUCK you got hosed mate

Also Diginut you're kinda dumb for saying that overclocking is "not worth it."

It is VERY much worth it. Why wouldn't you get the extra speed if you can?

I bought my current CPU, a Pentium Dual Core E2160 (Conroe core but with 1MB L2 cache and an 800MHz FSB) for $70. It runs 1.8GHz stock. It's currently doing 3.0GHz 100% stable in the most strenuous stress testing for days on end. I barely had to bump the voltage, and it essentially runs on par with a Core 2 Duo E6750, which at the time I bought this was over 3 times the price.

So yeah. Overclocking is amazing if you know what you're doing. Only a fucktard would let his overclocked rig stay unstable. Just go down in increments until it is fully stable, it isn't difficult.

Your right...now that I remember he said to go with the Zalman CNPS9500 because he will overclock it so it will keep it running cooler. Like I said Im no computer wiz and he used Microsoft Excels spreadsheet to create a list for my computer and show me which parts he would use so I guess he just forgot to take off the original Thermaltake and replace it.

Same here. I built my own since the '92, and tired of it.... no sense nickel and diming anything anymore. Time is worth more to me than money. I'm back with name brands where I don't have to worry about warranty, support and quality.
