Paul van Dyk - Hands On In Between EP

He's been out there, back and in between, but one thing's for sure he is loving every minute!

In the world of electronic dance music, Paul van Dyk needs absolutely no introduction. With nod's and nominations for everything from DJMag's #1 spot to the Grammys, van Dyk has seen his share of praise from fans and critics alike! Releasing a stellar collection of songs from his recent album In Between, this legendary DJ breathes new life into some of the album's best loved vocal tracks with remixes by dance masters Jon O'Bir, Kyau and Albert, Super 8 and Tab and even a mix by Beatport contest winner Mateo Murphy!

This latest installation kicks off with Talk in Grey; a stunning collaboration with indie-rocker Ryan Merchant whose retro-pop vocals are at once sinfully masculine and intensely emotive. Evoking only the very best of a genre which so obviously strikes a chord with van Dyk, this mix is sure to be seeing heavy rotation from LA to Bombay as fans croon along to the wicked chorus!

Next up is a classic Jon O'Bir interpretation of Castaway featuring the ethereal voice of LA native Lo-Fi Sugar. And like all his productions, this gorgeously nuanced remix distills the velvety energy of Paul van Dyk's original while creating an intense wash of reverb laden vox and powerful basslines. With its intoxicating vocals and brilliant re-visioning by O'Bir, its impossible to imagine a better match!

Rounding out the latter half of Hands on In Between are two of Paul van Dyk's three album collaborations with singer/songwriter Ashley Tomberlin. Originally known for her work as Luminary, their tracks New York City and Complicated leave audiences continuing the journey where Luminary left off. Often fragile, but always honest, with Super 8 and Tab on remix duties NYC carefully departs from the moody sirens and city sounds of the original while managing to stay true to its emotional roots. Complicated also receives a nuanced rebirth with Kyau and Albert who draw out the trancier side with gorgeously melodic flourishes and a heavy nod to some of the original elements that gave Complicated such a unique flavour to begin with.

Last, but not least comes Beatport contest winner Mateo Murphy's remix of Far Away. Perhaps for many aspiring producers, this is the most exciting and unexpected part of this release because it proves yet again that if you've got the talent, anything can happen in the world of dance music! Murphy pushes this monster of a track in a new direction by roughing it up with dirty basslines and harder beats, while incorporating the same heart-stopping breakdown of the original which never fails to disappoint on the dance floor. Overall this collection is a much welcomed addition to the singles White Lies and Let Go that have already been burning up the clubs, and with gorgeous remixes by some of today's hottest young artists, we guarantee you'll be loving it too!

i love the retro theme! totally fun and classic to do the photo shoot in cuba -- not following in the very "dance music" style of photographs you usually see.

I have been excited about this for a while now. If only it was not territory restricted and I could buy it off of Beatport >.<

I really would not mind seeing a dubbed version of this.

Hmm .. Pvd`s interpretations of the best mixes of his artist album .. .. hmmmm .. .

Attended his h20 (Jhb) set this year.. early quarter of the year it would have been.. he played some of the most awful mixes of his inbetween album ever .. It seriously felt like the vocals were being pasted on the most Generic and Random background beats..when i say random.. i seriously mean it .. i was standing "wtf`ing" and wondering what was he attempting.. some of the worst stuff i`ve heard live .. . haha .. For an Angel and First State - Falling would have been the highlight of the set .. so yeah .. . ;/

It was a 3.5hour set.. with quite a bit of tracks from his inbetween project .. he played tracks from his previous compiltions.. again not very good mixes..would have been better playing the originals

.. . Heard super 8 and tab mix of NYC .. well better than the stuff he played for us .. Gonna give the rest a listen and see ..

I really like the Morph mix of 'in circles' and the O'Bir mix of 'Castaway'

I think that the original of NYC is fantastic and dont find the remixes improve on it though.

The only decent remix i heard of NYC is his own London city mix. A reworked version that is cleaner & purer.

Yes. The CD comes with a decent Greg Downey Remix, as well as Alex M.O.R.P.H. remix of "In Circles". The EP isn't really worth buying IMO.

This is really awful. It's a shame they don't hire talented people to do these sorts of things any more.

There's only so much you can do with a horrendous original.

Producers in the past who actually have talent had no trouble polishing PvD's turds.
