Satan (eek!) M.I.K.E. <3 NY - My Interview with M.I.K.E. aka Push

M.I.K.E., I really appreciate the opportunity to have this interview with you. I have followed your work for many years, and I ABSOLUTELY love your style!

What can you tell us a bit about your life as you were growing up in Belgium?

Well, thats a long story, so its always good to look up my biography on Mike.be lol.
But yeah, when I was a kid, playing football, almost made it to the pros. Thats no joke, then started getting interest for music at age 12. Then I was a DJ at a local radio station when I was 15, playing Marss, S Express, Coldcut and the back in the days Acid House! Getting nostalgic now. then ages 17, getting my first studio gear, drum computers and some synth. There it was, my first 4 track E.P. on U.S.A. Import records back in 1992 called Vision Act A New Sign E.P.

You have so many aliases. How did you come up with all of those names?

When I go in the studio, then it can turn out techno, trance, progressive, whatever, and the baby needs a name. You know thats just me, the diversity in me. I just like to produce all kind of EDM music. Every project or project I start has its own identity and sound, so thats why I come up with those aliases.

Which alias do you enjoy producing under the most?

All of them!!

Can you provide us with more information on your new album entitled Horizons released under the alias Absolute?

Its actually a Best Of album with some exclusive tracks. I collected the best 8 releases, and 4 new tunes. With Absolute I always tried to have a dreamy sound, and if you listen closely to the older Absolute tracks, it really breathes that dreamy, flyaway atmosphere. Absolute became a follow up to my Plastic Boy alias, but now the Plastic man is back in bizz again, so two for the price of one

What is your personal favorite on the new album?

I like them all; its a personal collection. But Absolutely does stand out. Love that twirling phase sound on the lead after the break, and its a strong production as well.

What are some of the reasons that you, and your family decided to purchase and additional residence in New York?

I did not purchase anything yet in New York, but my family lives there, and my wife is a New Yorker. I spend a lot of time in New York, and my kid loves it too, so maybe one day, I might stay for good! News York is just one of those citys that breath so much inspiration, thats why I love it there! But traveling between Europe and New York is a cool thing to do, it makes you a world citizen, and I love it!!

Who's clever idea was it to include a live studio feed of you working in the studio at Selfcast.com? How often do you expect to be broadcasting live feeds in the future?

I figured it out myself lol! I think its a cool medium to come up and closer with your fans and people who just turned into EDM. You only need a good computer, decent screen resolution, a pair of speakers, and jam along! I actually did some test broadcasts back in July, but in September I will try to go weekly. At least once day per week online, so people can see me at work and share what I lovethe passion for electronic music, so keep an eye on my website for updates on that!

Are you going to be working on any collaboration with other artists in the near future?

Hahaof course. I just finished a new tune with Andrew Bennett under our Friends Connection moniker and soon, me and Armin will team up again. A new Active Sight with Fred Baker is in the pipeline too, but not anytime soon due both our busy tour and studio schedules.

Being that you already reached the halfway mark to the 100th episode milestone of Club Elite Sessions, I wondered if you were planning anything special for the 100th Episode Anniversary?

There will be, and with a party as well. Im not going into the footsteps of my buddy Armin, but it will be more intimate. Something in Antwerp, but might be in NY or L.A. too.

Do you have any other closing comments for your fans around the world?

Keep it real, keep on supporting your precious EDM scene and see you guys soon in NYC!

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me.

Im actually working on a single review for Airbase for his new track under Intuition so that shouldn't be a hard one too manage.

I have also worked with SvR's PR Manager for interviews with artists in the past so I will look into that.

Arnej I don't really have any contact with but he's a TA so I will def reach out to him.

Marcello, holla at me and we will get something going

Thanks for the suggestions

this guy is untouchable. I got more tracks by him under all his aliases than any other producer/DJ out there in my music library. Wanted to get a couple of vinyls signed at Love but he had to leave quickly. Maybe next time hopefully.

Hell of an interview Z I would be shittin a brick if i interviewed him hes one of my main influences.

THE MIKE CLAP!!! clap...clap...clap...clap........

kshhhhhh...lol

yeah ive definitely become a new fan of M.I.K.E. esp after Classics Night and i love it that he recognizes and love to work with our locals cuz they are definitely a great resource that is going to SHAKE UP NYC nightlife in the right ways...TAKEOVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!~ ;D

anyway a shoutout to CORE, man i know several old school NYTAS in the past has had this concept of opening our own club so we can control the crowds and stuff and it was mostly a pipe dream so to speak...but seriously CORE has been amazing in making the venue LOVE that very spot.. and now expanding themselves too. so amazing. i was telling the DCTAs about how great CORE is and from the soo positive responses they were giving me, they totally love u guys too. i was even talking to Steve from District Ignition cuz he helped to build that promotional group from scratch...(look how SUCCESSFUL club ibiza has been because of THEM and they had formed during the time where Nation had closed down and they were getting disillusioned by FUR and Management in DC) but yeah he seemed very impressed by CORE as well. it would be great for u two to talk..but u guys probably have already right? lol ;p

oh and KUDOS on talking to Sarah aka dcgirly she is very enthused about edm and DC scene and she will draw a LOT of ppl to that party. man i am already loooknig fwd to taht, god knows we are def down to SUPPORT!!!
