i tried giving this topic a search but no luck...sorry for the noobish post. but im looking to get logic studio (doing my research as we speak as to which daw i want to dive into) and i currently have a the 2.4 macbook.

is anybody running logic through the 13.3 display macbook? im eventually going to get a bigger monitor so i dont need to be worried about that...but ill be stuck on the tiny monitor for a few months. any issues at all regarding having to squint trying to look at stuff?

also...should i up my ram to 4 gigs or stay at 2 gigs until i really get a feel for what im doing? external hd will also be bought at some point, probably a 7200rpm 1TB one.

1 more thing...im kinda new to interfaces/soundcards but...im looking at a firewire interface...since im not going to be doing any direct recording of live instruments at the moment, should i even get one or will the onboard soundcard on my macbook be enough to handle what im doing?

again...bear with the noob question...but hey...at least i have an idea of what i want to do as opposed to other people who come in here with whats the best daw or how to make beats questions

Congrats man!

Fisrt the 2.4 with 2g of RAM is absolutely fine to start off with. Only upgrade when you really start to find you're running out, which believe me, will probably be a long while.

The display will hinder you a bit, but not to the point you can't learn on it. At some point in the future, once you have properly dabbled with logic, and you're finding the small screen is slowing your flow get the second monitor - I've got friends with the setup and it's works great.

Just get the largest drive you can at the time, just get a reputable brand and look on the forums to make sure that model hasn't got bad reviews.

Not totally up whats out right now but look at echosystem or maudio firewire interfaces. The onbaord sound will be OK for starting out but really nothing more.

In terms of priority you should buy in this oder;

1, Monitor
2, Soundcard
3, External drive
4, RAM

The reasons; the monitor will greatly increase your workflow, which IMO is the most important aspect of making music. The soundcard will remove certain sound qaulity and processing restrictions from you and give you more options. The drive will let you amass samples and backup, and I didn't suggest this earlier as your starting projects won't be that crucial and you can always backup projects to DVDs.
Finally Ram because 2g is by far enough to get started, and all the others will be needed well before you need more ram (unless you are going totally sample based).

I'm running logic studio on a macbook with 1GB ram, and i'm doing alright. The screen is a bit small, and for some plugins that's a problem, because there is simply not room on the screen for them.

You'll want an external drive though.

yeah i'm running logic on a 2.2 mac with 2gb ram and it works fine theres no squintig and the only problem i;ve had is with the korg legacy synth. I also have the Native komplete set and that works fine.

For a sound card i was looking at a Ederol FA101 but havnt got one yet.

personally i wouldn't bother with buying a monitor first but thats your decision.

Yea im running logic studio on a macbook with the same size, 2.4ghz 4gb of ram. Def. max out your ram, it loads all the synths,drum machines, etc much faster and you wont get any errors popping up. I dont mind the screen, i dont need to squint i just make my bottom tool bar disappear and max out all the room for the logic window.
