Sidechaining issue. Kick must be the same sample?

Hi guys, when I make my sidechains I ever use the same kick of the project because of logic amplitude reasons... But I'm looking some guys using a different kick, they use the same kick for all projects. ie.: Vengeance trancy kick 001 for sidechaining everything they sequence... This is wrong right?

There is no right or wrong in music but you would want to use the exact same kick for reasons you probably already know.

You'd use your ears and work out whether it works fine or not. If both kicks have a similar amp envelope and are around the same length, then it shouldn't be a problem - the sidechained sound will still get pushed down when it should be pushed down.

If the kicks are quite different, for example the kick you're using in your song has a much longer decay and you're sidechaining a bass to a kick with a short decay, the bass could come up a lot more quickly and clash with the audible kick.

But yes, use your ears - if it sounds fine, it's fine!

i'm sure you've found a good idea of what compressor settings sound best with your sound. i know for me i've found a sweet spot in my release setting that has added groove to elements that were once static.

if you use a different kick sample you're working against the natural grove of your track and will have to work against it in the compressors settings to try and get it back. you'll have a much easier time using the same kick.

I LOVE SIDECHAINING

I always use the same kick I just split the audio and run one to the mixer and one to sidechain input. Sounds great to me

for side chain i use whatever kick i have going. since side chain sort of creates an envelope, it's nice to have the envelope of the kick effecting the bass or whatever you're controlling.

I love to use the delay designer on a ton of my kicks just for added effects!
