Unhappy Problem with Set!

Right, I ve got this Sven Vath Set thats quality...its 119.17 min in length and 163 MB (171,773,830 bytes).

THE PROBLEM---Every time I place it in Nero, it only recognises the first 42 minutes!!!

Whats wrong???

Well, what can I say, happened to me once with easy cd creator with a 5 min track. Just change the soft, why don't you try with cdrwin, it's the best.

I'm guessing that at 163MB, it's an mp3. Why don't you convert it to a wave file and try buring that. This way you can also cut it up into two disks (which you will HAVE to do). Even with overburn you can only get a max of 80-85 minutes per cd

170mb and only 117 minutes???? That doesn't sound right.

It depends on the bitrate it was encoded at. I've encoded my sets at 256kbps and a 121min set is 222MB!

Why 222, Isn't 192 good?

Well, yes, 192 is OK but 256 is better. The higher the bitrate, the better the sound quality.

If you are recording your own set, and you want to put it onto a CD, there's no reason to actually encode it as an mp3, you'll only lose sound quality. The only reason you would want to encode it as an mp3 is to save space.

The thing to remember with live sets is that it doesn't matter what bitrate the mp3 is incoded with as much as what the source was. Many livesets are from the radio, which equates to about 112kbit quality. It's like polishing a turd - no matter how good you encode it, it's still going to sound just as crappy as the input.

haha good analogy

Not really...

It's been said before, but mp3 is a lossy format. As soon as you start encoding anything as an mp3 you immediately lose sound quality, no matter what the original was like, making it even worse than the original.

It's like getting a turd, and forming it into new and disturbing shapes. The lower the bitrate you encode it in, the more horrifying the turd becomes. If you encode it with a high bitrate, OK it's still a turd, but it doesn't smell quite as bad as it could have done.

Cool

WTF with all these poo analagies

I encode my sets as wave format, but this isn't practical for sharing my sets with people across the internet. Would you rather have to dl a 700MB set or a 100MB set?

The way that MP3 encoding works is by eliminating all the sounds that you can't hear. So all sounds below 20Hz and above 20,000Hz are eliminated. Also, let's say there is a flute playing and a very heavy bass beat hits. There will be a time in which you won't be able to hear the flute playing, so the encoding eliminates it. It does this more and more at lower bitrates, hence creating a smaller size file, but with less quality.
