hey guys. I was just wondering.. i found this reason 4 tutorial site
that claims to sell an ebook that supposedly gives one 'all' the production techniques neede to produce trance in a reson 4 environment. Any one know as to the legitimacy of these guys or if any one has tried

I agress, once you give the manual a good read you will find most tutorials basically regurgitate what was in the manual. I brought a book from http://www.trancetutorial.com/ which was good if you knew absolutely nothing!

I've notived a book out called Power Tools For Reason... some guy said that it was NOT for beginners, but I wonder how much more there can be beyond the manual... Has anyone read this???

Dont buy a book specifically aimed at reason. I have bought one which helped a lot when i was new but it does just explain what everything does which TBH you could just play with them or come on here when your stuck

Buy "the dance music manaul" It not only covers reason but covers all the popular synths hard and soft it covers all the sequencers cubase logic etc it also covers every genre of music with a tutorial on how to make a standard track for each genre the trance one is excellent. it covers everything from the history of dance music right through to how to compress each individual sound kicks bass anything. it explains with pictures what every little thing to do with dance music is and how it is applied.

It has a cd with examples and video tutorials and is very easy to follow.

Trust me 500 pages with pictures on everything you need just buy it

thanks mate, yea I actually got that book to start me off and agree that it is valuable. My only critique would be that it is getting a bit dated, and his descriptions of trance are full of snare rolls and gated pads etc... but woud recommend it to beginners.

True but you cant really teach people to make trance I think because some people like differnt things. The book explains everything like compressors etc which is invalueable. I also explains musical structure so whilst nit wont tell you how to get your next track signed to vandit it will tell you how to get everything right you know?

I bought Reason 3 Power and thought it was excellent when I was starting out. Not only explained Reason in a lot of depth, but also explained all about subtractive synthesis and all the common effects.

I see there is a Reason 4 power out now. I have no idea how good it is. Ableton Live Power, I thought, was no where near as good as Reason 3 Power. It really did just feel like the manual in print.

So I wouldn't like to say if Reason 4 Power will be worth buying or not...

I WAS NOT IMPRESSED. It looks like the bloody manual red out loud, or crap I could easily work out for myself. I mean fuck, if I was gonna be paying for that crap I'd expect a lot more in depth then that. It sounds like for the synth tutorial you'd just get a basic "This sounds kinda hollow, heres what it sounds like" etc. When infact some random youtuber has probably made a slightly more in depth tutorial. Ok, so lower latency= higher cpu usage and 44.1khz is the standard sample rate for cd. I'm sure someone who actually has some actual knowledge could give a farrr more in depth explanation then that.

I happened to record +145 videos on youtube about reason. In the first 44 videos orso, I kind of went in depth about the devices (something you would normally could read inside the manual). However, the difference with explaining it in a video or explaining it word by word is a different experience.

Other then that, I have started to work on effects (something that you won't see in the manual),different routing abilities and I happened to explain how to create certain genres as well (trance, progressive trance, groovey mixes, and last series I am making at the moment is a series about drum and bass in reason).

Heck, I have build up so much knowledge in the last 15 years, I could write books about it... but ehr yeah, I prefer making music instead
