Smiley DJ Softwareineti

Okay so I'm using Cakewalk Kinetic along with a couple basic Wave editors. I want to have a professional, dynamic sound. In the style of Tiesto, Blank & Jones, Deadmau5, Meck & Dino, Gabriel & Dresden, etc.
What is the cheapest way that I can get closer to this sound? I am feeling really limited with options, and I'm limited with cash. Thanks!

Yeah, you're probably going to get slammed pretty good for that question here, but here's my advice:

(1) Make sure you have a good drum/percussion library
(2) Get one decent synth and learn how to program it
(3) Get a good book or two on mixing and spend a lot of time with it (and with your EQs, compressor, limiter, reverbs, delays, etc.)
(4) listen to a LOT of trance and EDM in general and listen to the melodies, countermelodies, chord progressions, fills/transitions, etc. That's not to say that you should copy them, but that you should figure out what works, what doesn't work, and why.

That's about the cheapest way. Remember, learning to produce trance isn't about spending money on software and gear, it's about learning how to make and combine sounds, arrange a track, mix a track, write a decent melody/hook and make it work with a chord progression, etc. In other words, it's more about knowledge and experience than it is about gear. That said, Kinetic is fine, but you may want to consider upgrading to Project5, which comes with a bunch of excellent synths, audio processors, and effects plugins, but is still dirt cheap.

Cheapest way to sound good is to learn digital audio production, no kidding.

You need analogue warmth for that kind of professional sound.
I recommend the sun.

To start, grab yourself a Jomox Sunsyn. Tweak the parameters until you get a nice deep kick happening. Then you'll need a hihat - an Oberheim Matrix 12 will fit the bill nicely. If you want to add a snare, an Alesis Andromeda is perfect, whereas if you're more of a clap man, naturally you'll want a Minimoog Voyager.

After that, grab some bass and synth multisamples (128 kb/s mp3s are fine) and sprinkle lightly on top.

Voila!

Re: Softwareineti

Resisting the urge to have a laugh (theres always another fool asking sillier questions, I'll let you go) the best thing IMO to do, is grab a copy of NI komplete (best synths around at an awright package price), get a real DAW (sonar, Cubase, Logic, Ableton) get a soundcard and some headphones and a midi controller.
If you wanna do it really cheap, go with Reaper and a few free synths, but you'll have a harder time. You'll want a soundcard and headphones either way.
Then, apply youself to learning, buy magazines, hang around here, don't ask anymore questions till you know what your doing.

You forgot that he has to use a Mac Pro 8core with 32 GB memory to get the job done.
