Well the time has come for Wetbar to call it quits. As of September 27th they will be closing their doors so we only have 3 more weeks to party there before it is gone. Its a shame considering what a great venue it is. So come out the next 3 fridays and lets send the place off proper. Kazell will be playing their next week and we are trying to come up with some special for september 19th.

We are currently working on a couple of new projects so keep your eyes open for that.

Thanks!

Horrible news. I will miss that place.

I was making my way over here to post this as well.

Yeah, the gay community had stopped supporting them because they were doing some straight nights and the straight community was scared of the place because it was a Gay club. Go figure!

So what about BT?

Always willing to accomadate us in anyway and always open to our ideas. But after being open for 3 years and losing on average $80K a month they finally decided to close the doors. They have even been gracious enough to tell their entire staff 3 weeks in advance of the closing and also setting up Severance pay for every employee to accomadate them in the transistion. Thats something you really don't see for bartenders and staff of a club.

Reposting from lunar again because everyone should hear this. And here was my response there.

Wow. I felt that toward the middle of the Swerve nights that the staff began to get really nice too. Aside from the dumb "sit you in line to make it appear busy" thing, I have nothing but good words to say about all my experiences with the staff from that point on.

edit: And before that, they were very genial as well minus pockets of dumb people. When I was doing my interview with Prydzy, they sent a guy to show his manager and me upstairs, and then left the spot to just us. They trusted us and gave us privacy. That's respectable if anything!

Working on a different venue for the night, should have something together here in the next day or so. I actually have a lot of stuff booked that I need to find new homes for in Atlanta but it shouldn't be a problem at all.

I never could get any of my friends to go there because it's a 'gay club'. People are so stupid, this really sucks

At least I'll leave with some good memories of the place... and some bad ones.

The best one ever is watching 2 lesbians make out directly in front of me.

The worst memory... watching 2 dudes make out in front of me. Rofl

RIP Wetbar.

Good news.

I liked the place and will be sad to see it go. Two of the better shows I have been to were there, Ferry Corsten and Deadmau5. I thought it had a couple of advantages over Opera including the dj booth that wasn't 10 feet above the crowd. I'm kind of surprised it is closing. I didn't realize there was such a big problem with gay people not wanting straights there and vice versa. Of course I never liked seeing the guys making out, but it never bothered me it was originally a gay club. I went there to have fun and hear good music. I guess Opera will be the main club now. What other clubs could events be held at besides Opera? I've never been to any others.

Sad and ironic that the prejudice goes both ways.

You know if they plan on liquidating their assets and selling their equipment to the public?

I'm going to Seth Troxler @ Bazzaar tonight. It's beside The Fox. There is also The Mark that used to be good (and I believe still is, but they suck at promoting and telling us what is going on there). Masq can do well in Hell with good edm shows.

Nothing will ever top Wetbar though.

Justice is served!

(at the expense of dance music and gay/straight relations)

Posted by Caution_BiPolar on Sep-05-2008 19:28:

I think they secretly wanted to be a hip hop club. That's why they started with the dancers and the assaulting random patrons Cause seriously, how often do people actually start fights at EDM shows?

I loved The Mark. The first show that I ever went to alone when I moved up was there, and it was packed. But has anyone ever seen it packed since? Phil K was playing to an empty room. Just because I wasn't around when Sander K killed it in that spot doesn't mean I'm ignorant to the current ways

And with all due respect Maggie, we get it.

Posted by Calamar on Sep-05-2008 20:18:

Yeah, what happened to the Mark? Do they still spin EDM there regularly? I just assumed we lost the Mark when the Descent (?) Thursday events were canceled.

I haven't really been clubbing since Deadmau5, but I need a reliable Friday spot for electronic music when the need arises, and Swerve's Friday events delivered pretty consistently. If anyone has more suggestions, I'd be glad to hear them.

Hey, since I hadn't been to Swerve in a while, I guess this means I inadvertently supported Caution_BiPolar's boycott. Yeah, ATLTA unity!

(... Unless Liquified convinces Above & Beyond or Ronski Speed or John O'Callaghan or Aly & Fila to visit Swerve in the next few weeks, in which case I'm definitely there.)

Posted by coroknight on Sep-05-2008 20:52:

This means i'm never going to be able to experience Swerve
