John Williams - Cantina Band (Rob Turner's "Han Shot First" Mix)

Very, very, very early sample because a fair number of people have asked:

Edit: Also, this....

Well, it is a bit less interesting than I expected (I hoped you would hear the original sample at least once, which would make it really cool imo), but the bass absolutely kicks ass!

Love the low-res cymbals or whatever that percussion sample is. Very bouncy. I like it.

loving the idea
needs more moog

Absolutely no energy.

It doesn't sound like the original at all, it was probobly what you were going for but it sounded TOO original to me.

I find that it's nice for after hours stuff, the after hours type stuff is not for me though.

With that said I like how it's quirky, and strange.

Posted by noikeee on Sep-08-2008 17:45:

This is quite cool. Needs just a couple more percs or some strings or something to give it a little extra punch later on the track, but this is a very nice base already.

Haven't even heard of the original so I don't know how it ranks as a remix.

Wish it had more elements of the original, but i really like this very interesting, def.quirky tune.More Moog for sure!

Nice Idea, but this (http://www.trackitdown.net/genre/te...ack/396423.html) has been about for a while.

Posted by ReclusNdangrmnt on Sep-09-2008 15:03:

Needs the original cut in there somehow, but it's a good start.

That is absolutely horrible.

Very, very cool. Love the bouncy-ness of it. I really would not have known this was a remix of anything if you hadn't told me though.. How much of the original did you use in this?

Very true. I don't really see how it'd fit in anywhere because

A: the intro beat is kind of relaxed and, shite, basically so this presumably should be played at the start of something.

But

B: if A is the case I highly doubt anyone would be that fucked to "get" the sample if its that early in the evening.

hmm.

Posted by RJT on Sep-09-2008 16:20:

The other thing is that there are kind a fair number of remixes or edits of this out there that basically take the original line and try to cram it in between whatever the percussion du jour is for their genre - I really, really wanted to try not to do that.

I may, however, try to do a full release (at least two sides) for this, in which case I'd probably finish this off as a dub and then try to make a bit more "club friendly"/sample heavy mix for the other side.

We'll see what happens.

Well both the synth and the pad lines that are in there are based on the sheet music for a couple parts of the original - so the chord progression is obviously the same, but beyond that, I really wanted to try to give it its own legs to stand on, so I maybe I tried a bit too hard and any semblance of the original is lost.

Going to try and work on it some more today - thanks to everyone for having a listen.

Pretty cool!

A little dry though that is probably intentional. And its kinda thin which i dont think is intentional. Overall, nice work.

Posted by G-Con on Sep-09-2008 17:15:

not bad at all.

Hard to critic much, if it is such an early version but I would say, is it could do with a little bit more groove to help it along as it did drag a little after a while.

Really like the dubby bass you've got here. Very nice.

The mix in general is a little empty, I know its meant to be like this, though a couple of extra sounds wouldn't hurt, just to give it that extra bit of warmth if you know what I mean.

A bit more automation in places might help as well.

Overall though, for an early version, its promising!

I definitely hear where you guys are coming from on wanting it a lot more filled out - and I do plan on trying to resolve, as I definitely do not want it to feel at all hollow when it's done.

Probably going to try and write another synth line as well as beef up the percussive profile from here on out - thanks for all the feedback, guys.

um
you've never watched star wars?

maybe you don't recognise the original by the track name, but you will know it when you hear it

Posted by Philby on Sep-10-2008 09:06:

im not that big on this style, but seeing as its a remix of something i like, i already like the melody hehe. pretty good effort i think, especially in terms of originality.

Posted by noikeee on Sep-10-2008 23:43:

No, I've never watched anything related to Star Wars, lol.

And I'm a nerd.
