i actually just sent in my cards to be printed at www.print100.com (based in hong kong). i looked at their sample cards and they are amazing printers. i only ordered 300 (i really dont need that many personal cards) but i got the matte lamination and rounded corners free.
my sister even looked at the print quality and said its one of better ones that shes seen.

You can make your card on MS Publisher and then just bring it in to Kinkos and get a bunch printed for real cheap... they also have computers there with MS Publisher so you can design it right there, I think it costs something like 10 cents a min to use the computers or something

thats a cheesy way of doing it.
professional printers wont even accept those files.

i think you mean www.vistaprint.ca
i looked at their site before but it seems the pricing listed on their site is only for pre-designed templates that they offer (and they are pretty ugly). i think they charge more if you have a custom designed card. i believe they charge extra for extra custom stuff like rounded corners, etc.

what do you guys design it with those?
any ideas? suggestions

yeah it depends what your looking for, they definitely arent high class business cards by any means but they do the trick if you just need something basic.... plus its real cheap

might as well buy one of those Avery print-at-home kits and use a template in MS-Word.

the thing with cards is that many people just you by the way your card looks. its kinda the first impression for business.

I used the .com because they had better free deals.

It cost $5 to upload a picture.. but once it is loaded you don't pay that fee again.

One sided card, one colour text on a white card (standard card stock)

At the end of the day you get what you put in. So if you want ppl to take you seriously dont skim on your own promotional material. Get the card designed by a pro & by that I mean someone with experience in that field. Dont go to a regular mom & pop shop & have them design & print your card because its gonna look like ass & so will you.

Same goes for promo cds. Dont give out an untracked mix on a sony cd with your info scribbled on it with a black magic marker. Put a bit of effort into it. Doing this stuff wont guarantee you gigs but itll help you get noticed & at least youll know you gave it your best shot.

I'm planning to get some business cards myself.

I've seen some really nice frosted/transparent ones from like graphic designers, etc. What's your opinion upon receiving one or seeing one... Tacky? Stylish? Catches your eye? Too much?

Kinda like this:
