what are the best console shooters?
now that i've re-discovered my love for shooters and emulators, i'd like some recommendations for scrolling shooters that i've missed since 2000.
i like games like Ikaruga or raiden.

I used to be much more into this genre than I am now but off the top of my head:
Dreamcast:
Border Down
Under Defeat
Zero Gunner 2 (highly recommended)
Castle of Shikigami 2
Psyvariar II
Playstation 2:
Gradius V
R-Type Final
Saturn:
Radiant Silvergun (predecessor to Ikaruga)
Salamander Deluxe Pack
That should keep you busy for a while.
Check out the forums over at www.shmups.com where there is nothing but talk and hardcore fans of this genre.

Have you played Rez? It's available on the PS2 and as a download on Xbox live. It's a trippy space-type shooter with some rhythm elements mixed in. The soundtrack and your abilities change in realtime depending on your performance.
Pwnage.

There was a shooter for I think ps1 that was made by Square of all companies. I remember playing the demo of it on a ps underground disk years ago. It switched from side scrolling to other directions in 3d.
Try to find it.
