"Jazzy, airy" deep house (such as Bent - Always [Ashley Beedle's Mahavishnu Remix])

I've always loved this song, and need more like it. Hopefully the description in the title I gave make sense.

It can work with so many types of people, and can be used in a set in so many ways...yet stands so well on its own as an individual track.

I'm looking for songs that sound similar to this:

I love the organic feel it has (with the improvised piano and such), yet it still sounds housey.

Recommendations?

PM Myra alerting her to this thread. Seriously.

It's your best bet.

Love how it's labeled as TRANCE on youtube. Love the track though, first heard it on Renaissance Presents Nic Fanciulli, Vol. 2.

Not a bad idea... I'll do that. She was the one that originally turned me on to this track with one of her mixes. Cheers.

lol, I know... but hey, what can ya do?

Posted by RJT on Sep-09-2008 20:48:

She has a penchant for this kind of stuff, that's for sure. I think she also just has a lot of it from a lot of different years - so a sound collection to recommend from.

I, on the other hand, am utterly lost when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Posted by david.michael on Sep-09-2008 20:50:

A thoroughly under-appreciated style for sure. I'd like to explore it a bit.

Posted by lcid on Sep-09-2008 20:59:

you're really setting the bar high since nothing compares to that track.

check out stuff from:

Charles Webster
Fish Go Deep
Tiger Stripes
Frankman
Gabriel Black
Lanoiraude
Microstar
Neurotron
Paul Keeley (his older stuff)
Spiritchaser

also,

Trentemoller - Le Champagne / In Progress

Allow me to pitch in Max Thompson, a regular TA. He has some great mixes on his web site. http://www.djmaxthomson.com/

Good luck with your gig.

It's written by James "Kimball" Cannon & Ernesto Lecuona. Sampled from Norrie Paramor and His Orchestra - Always In My Heart, from the LP Lovers In Latin (1959), vocals performed by Nana Mouskouri.

Chicane sampled the same song than Bent.

The original version, Glenn Miller and His Orchestra - Always In My Heart is from 1942 tho, vocals performed by Ray Eberle.

This would probably be a good thread to ask for a few recommendations for some Garnier tracks..

Something a bit more rare and less played than The Man With The Red Face.

Laurent is my sax-hero, and I know you know a shitload of tracks I'd like..

Shoot!

Posted by xtr3m on Sep-10-2008 05:55:

Try Marc Romboy - Elif for sax.

You know everything
Thanks a lot, I'll do some research into that.

Check out the label Mule Musiq on Beatport. Seriously.
And anything by Henrik Schwarz too!

David Michael check out this track. Vocal deep house bombski for sure:

Larry Heard presents Mr. White - Sun Can't Compare

http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF272653-01-01-01.mp3

Can't lose with that. Its relatively new but it has the classic claps and acid riff which give it a very timeless feeling IMO.

Posted by lcid on Sep-10-2008 14:41:

Sebastian Gamboa & Nuboy - Journey Into The Keys

another great piano jam

Posted by david.michael on Sep-10-2008 15:14:

Some of the tracks I'm really digging (out of the ones I've been able to preview on YouTube from work... Beatport, Juno and the like are blocked, but YouTube isn't. Heh.)

Echomen - Thru 2 You
Trentemoller - In Progress
Martinez - Fuji <== Loving this bassline!
Physics - Don't Deny Me Love (Martinez Aquarium Jazz Dub) <== Love the funky breakbeat and trumpet
Miguel Migs - Those Things (Simon Grey Phase II Vocal) <== Funky!

Not bad, but not entirely what I'm looking for in this thread. I think I'll revisit in when my mind isn't in a particular mode so that I can appreciate it more. I can be pretty one-tracked when looking for a specific sound.
