Posted by nchs09 on Sep-10-2008 18:14:

ya i dont like it either... or happy hardcore for that matter. Drum and bass sucks as well.

Posted by gehzumteufel on Sep-10-2008 18:22:

That track sucks. I love how FSOLs stuff is more chillout and ambient at times.

No, but this is:

Oh, and don't relate this stuff to techno, you.

My friend swears by Hardstyle and Jumpstyle, I don't get it man. There's barely any structure at all to the track, just really heavy kicks and lame sounding house/rave melodies. I guess it wouldn't suck so much if there was a little bit more to it.

I tried to focus on them but the distorted bass drum moved my soul in such a way that I almost started dancing here at work.

jumpstyle... the embarrasing cousin of hardcore

i used to think the same... and i blew off the entire genre for such a long time, until this year when i realized there's tons of chilled out jazzy melodic drum & bass that's absolutely gorgeous and interesting to listen to.

Audio Lotion
Lemongrass
Thunderball
Marcel
Ethereal 77 (alias of Ulrich Schnauss)
Nor Elle (alias of Terry Lee Brown Jr)
KMC
lots of older releases on Mole Listening Pearls label

but i'll still agree that there's a lot of awful drum & bass out there.

Please don't associate this shit with techno Music for chavs.

(By the way, Lucid, isn't that trip hop? I checked some tunes out and that doesn't sound like drum'n'bass)

most of the artists i listed produce a variety of stuff that could be labeled drum & bass, downtempo, trip-hop, and ambient.

the first Lemongrass CD 'Drumatic Universe' is definitely all drum & bass, as well as Ethereal 77's 'Landscapes' album.

Posted by lcid on Sep-10-2008 19:46:

unless i've been completely misguided and actually have no idea what real drum & bass is.

Posted by cmay119 on Sep-10-2008 19:51:

I've given all those hardstyle genres a fair chance (Including Drum & Bass) and I just can't get into it. I don't see myself ever getting into any of the 'hardcore' genres, but perhaps if I come across the right drum & bass record I'll give it another chance. Since I've heard stuff from that genre that's almost stomachable.

Maybe it was just a coincidence, and I missed the "uptempo" stuff. I'll give it a proper listen when I get home.
