Richie Hawtin #1 DJ in the world right now... AGREE/DISAGREE?

In terms of our global dance music scene right now (Sept.2008), would you agree with me that Richie deserves to be considered #1? (I'm not really talking about the DJ Mag 100 poll specifically, just pointing out how Richie is pretty much on top right now)

- gigs
- label
- influence
- skill

The guy is making massive waves (especially in Europe) right now and IMO is the ambassador of techno (and therefore dance music today)...

I think 20 years from now we'll look back and recognize him amongst the top 5 best dj's ever.

on fire:

discuss...

Agree 100%

Its amazing how much love and respect he gets in Europe compared to his home country.

Closes almost every major techno festival (7 hour Timewarp set was amazing).

Looking forward to seeing him at Minitek on Sunday.

Some more videos of the Richie World Tour that I went on last year lol:

(notice Luciano partying in the booth)

anyone who can get 3+1/2 half naked men (half point going to the unbuttoned shirt) in the booth should be considered the best...regardless of what their playing. ha.

Hawtin is already a dignified legend in the dance music world. In 20 years music culture in general will put him on the same pedestal.

Well said.

I don't know too many DJs doing what Richie does and those that are doing it just do not get the same amount of attention. Richie is beyond DJing or performances or touring - his label (as much as you can love it or hate it) has been magnificently branded and rebranded several times over and has influenced legions of people worldwide. The label parties are carefully crafted, the artists on the roster live eat breathe and sleep Minus...basically what I'm saying is that Richie is a package of things now and that package has been hugely successful, and not just in niche markets either.

I've always loved ritchie

Hawtin is definately the man. M_nus party at BBR and DEMF 2008 he totally blew me away. The way he mixes, his skills are truly un-real and mind-boggling at times.

Saw this vid of him at Awakenings and definately brought me back to the beatport tent at DEMF...

I agree he is the best techno dj in the world .. that video where he explains how he uses the tracktor setup is sikk! now is he the best Canadian dj that is the question!

isn't Richie on TA? under the name PVDObsession

He's quite simply da man.

I'm a Villalobos/Vath man myself, but Hawtin should be numero uno, looking forward to seeing him at Minitek.
