Are Americans Lazy?

No doubt this will create some sparks!

Do you think americans are generally (as a nation) lazy? i mean they are more than the main polluter in the global warming scale, refused to sign the treaty coz it 'wasn't in americas best ecomonical intrest', fast food chains everywhere!! and them hotdog stands!

My friend recently went over, and he said for their 'all you can eat' people go up 2-3-4 times! Americans generally seem to be bigger than europeans to me!

AND - this one takes the piss, i no one american who has two cars, one for long journeys and one for short! wtf! she was in england and said shes nackered coz shes not used to walking everywhere, she even sais she'd car it to the shop! (the shop she mentioned was 2-mins walk, and prolly quicker to walk than car after u'ved parked and got it going)

Im not lazy, i even push bike to college 4 miles away 3 times a-week (8-miles round trip), there is a bus too! lol! 4 miles isnt even far!

Grrr, americans get off ur arse more!

I live in Canada

Many people tend to associate Canadians as Americans. As a Canadian, I am NOT LAZY. However, i beleive that many of my neighbors to the south, and many of my fellow Canadians are. Cars are the focus for a lot of people around here.

But you also have to realize that there is a difference between Europe and North America that leads to cars being more important here. In Europe, everything is a lot closer together, whereas in NA, everything is spread out due to Urban sprawl.

Not that this is an excuse for pple that drive for 2 mins to get to the store and back, or that drive to the end of their driveways to pick up the mail, Those people should be made to walk.

Gas prices are also a lot cheaper here than they are in Europe, so there isnt really much of an incentive to stop driving.

I myself prefer to bike or walk.

Thumbs down

Seeing threads like this just makes u wonder why more and more Americans on the forum are starting to feel hostility toward the Europeans, doesn't it?

Making such stereotypical comment and gerneralization about the US people, probaby, creates/proves the sterotype that all Brits are snobs and they are prejudice towards Northamericans - Canadians... And if u try to prove otherwise, then you would just be committing a double standard!

Coup, as much fun as you can be, I think this thread (well for the most part) is rather immature, ignorant, disrespectful and, shallow... :-/

To answer your question.. I can't answer one way or another if Americans are lazier than the rest of the world. But regarding Americans' lazy attitude toward transportation, I think it's just human nature for us to try to exert energy to the minimum and to take whatever form of transportation that is the most efficeint. the whole purpose of transportaion is to transport us from one location to another...be it by feet, bicycle, cars, trains, etc.... and i think that most americans opt for automobiles because the distance from one place to another is by far more outstanding than other countries due to the large land mass. compare to many countries US is by far larger in size meaning that it takes longer to get to the destination. of course you can compare the size of US land to say China or what have you and say that more people in China walk, but, taken in to account the economy of China, it isn't possible for as many people to afford cars or even other simpler form of transportaion other than their own feet. Also, back to the US, many states /cities lack the sophisicated train/metro/subway system that are found in other developed industrial countries. Hence, why many americans drives everywhere.

anyhow that much being said i think laziness is in all of us about the same amount. we try to minimize exertion of energy and time consumption whenever possible. that doesnt mean that we dont put effort/energy in ur activites when necessary.

*yaaaaaaaaaawns*

gettin too fuckin tired and lazy to give long valid reply meh.. ill continue to reply next time i come across this thread

for ppl who dont get wut im saying.. dont mind it.. its a continuence from the chat room.. just wanted to flame coup for pickin on the US...

thats a little rich isnt it considering ur old flame wars!

No im not trying to start a flame war, and i said generally, and as the votes are also agreeing with me it says i have a point. americans in the ta chatroom also agree as a nation they are lazy.

tiesto instead of churning out utter crap like u just did, have intelligent points like blue ocean did, thats the point of this, im fed up of forums full of 'lol' 'yeah thanks mate' 'nice one' what is the point?

This will only turn into a flame war if people with lack of sensiable posting do so, im no the only one who thinks this or the votes would go elsewhere!

Anyway, if people agree, including their own, maybe something should be done? less cars and more public transport? miki said america doesnt have any decent public transport thats coz no1 can be arsed to setup one coz they all rely on cars! sorry but all the evidence is there, if u dont like it tuff, go to another thread and post 'lol'.

BULLSHIT...u went out of your way knowing this would start problems with American TAs...Americans do not have to defend themselves against you or show reasons for anything...if we are so fucking lazy then why are we more superior then your little ass country...

You know a good portion of the time we have no choice but to drive. In a lot of the smaller cities and towns there is no subway, or bus system. Things are spread out and scattered throughout the city/town and its just not feasible, nor is it practical to walk or bike to the other end of town to get something from the store. In cities like Boston and NYC, there is a subway system that will take you basically anywhere in the city and if you notice a great deal of the people walk everywhere. In cities like those its efficient to walk. But, in more rural cities and towns its just not. This doesnt mean drive to a 5 min destination, but if you need to go somewhere that will take you a great deal of time to walk to, its practical to drive.

Theres my 2 cents

ok chill! u both r coming from a fair perspective in that the US shud not be generalized but it was also just a joke "on the whole". there is no need 4 this hostility. now kiss each other and make up
