Dancing Dude Nocturnal review.... Anybody please!

I was hoping to make it to this, but couldn't get the days off.

Please share your experiences.... How was the trance room? A&B, K&A, Cos. Gate, C. Lawrence...etc.

well, i would say that nocturnal definetly beat last years by a mile. good god lol. Great sound/lighting, awesome fireworks show, got in really fast. Dj Reviews: Christopher Lawrence tore it up like i havent heard him in a while, his edc set was ok, but he definetly ripped everyone a new one last nite. Kyau vs. albert were ok nothing too fantastic. Dug cosmic gates set. I would have to say though claude von stroke was by far the second best set of the nite. Loved dubfires set as well. Too tired to write more. later

Why did they put Cosmic Gate on so @%*$! early??? Got lost picking up a friend somewhere between the 10, 60, 215 and 91 and totally missed their set.

On the other hand, VIP setup was SWEET this year! Went several years ago, and VIP bar was in this room that looked like a gymnasium, complete with ugly walls, bright fluorescent lights, etc. and took 30 minutes to get a drink.

This year, the VIP lounge was carpeted, nicely decorated, many comfy couches and chairs, along with low mood lighting! The open bar was just outside, and there was never a line for drinks while I was there (but perhaps reason why is below). Was even sitting with my friends, and girls came around to take our drink orders! They still had a full buffet and snacks almost all night, even though it had just been advertised as "snacks."

Two major complaints though:

These two stupid decisions cheapened an otherwise stellar VIP setup.

When I got to the Labrynth stage, Second Sun were singing live and it was completely packed. Got up front and took some pics, hope they come out decent. Consensus seemed to be that their set was better than the recent one in LA, and they really seemed to be a good job of DJ'ing the event while also performing live.

Checked out the vendor booths, snagged a new Anjunabeats t-shirt (one can never have too many!) and checked out Junkie XL in the Big Top tent. Intoxicating rhythms, so much energy, he was standing on top of the decks going wild and was so into the set, great job!

Back to the VIP bar to get a drink and some water (which must be consumed entirely on the premises, did I mention that???) and then off to the Labrynth for A&B. Was very crowded, Jono and Paavo were spinning, and they also played a great combination of new and classic tracks, until 2:15 a.m., when the music slowed down waa...waaaa...waaaaaaa...waaaaaaa...thump...thump...thump, crowd chearing "one more song, one more song!" but they were gone!!! Was so mad that I left the stage, didn't care what happened there next.

Off to the Big Top for Digitalism's live performance. It was really really packed and I wasn't quite getting into it, then got a text that my friends wanted to leave. Spent awhile looking for them without any luck, so went to Upside Down stage where Dubfire was absolutely going off...progressive house beats, not as crowded since after 3 a.m., but the crowd was so into his set.

Left just a few minutes before 4 a.m. and called for a cab back to the Hilton. Tip: In San Bernadino, don't wave your hands out on the street for a taxi...this isn't even close to NYC...lol Even with 50,000 people or whatever, we called a taxi company and had a cab in about 5 minutes!

Overall a very good night, a few things could be done better. Cosmic Gate should have been on later, and A&B should have closed the night, with a triple encore...that's the only way, really!

How was Infected Mushroom? Was the set different? LA books them too often now and if I were IM I would be more cautious of this because without spacing in events, fan popularity might decline. Then again, it might not because this gives more and more people a chance to see them. Did they close proper? Was it packed for them? I mean they usually pack the largest crowd so if it were still that case last night, in the end, it was a good call for them to bring IM out yet again.

Seemed like people were leaving the main stage in droves after A&B finished, but I wasn't there so can't comment on IM's set. I'm sure someone else here can help though.

Infected Mushroom did the same bullshit they've been doing for years now. The people still LOVE it. The place was fucking packed and everyone in there seemed to know every song (I wonder why...).

Above & Beyond disappointed me, the bass was TOO DAMN THICK! Completely overpowered the music they were playing. All I could fucking hear was THUD, THUD, THUD, THUD.

Christopher Lawrence fucking rocked.

Richie Hawtin fucking rocked.

Not so much into Dubfire's and Sharams set. But I guess it's just the genre of music they play. Felt very repetitive. I felt like I was hearing the same song for 30 minutes.

Comsic Gate fucking rocked.

Second Sun fucking rocked.

Doc Martin FUCKING ROCKED!!! Some groovy old school beats right there.

Computer Club & Le Castle Vania had very, VERY nice sets.

That is all.

I loved the setup in here this year. Everything was pretty spacious and san bernardino gets fucking cold. I think the douches are coming in large groups now. There was some retard who threw water at me and my girlfriend and i looked back pissed and it was 3 douchy guys acting really hard for no reason. There were also a LOT of kids around... how did they get here.. parents drop them off?

Pros
Really cheap food.. cheaper than carnival prices
The area and setup
Line was almost instantaneous getting in
Main Room tore it up
Kaskade was throwing down a really nice set
Uberzone rocked it.. they played paper planes which i really dont know how to groove to.

Cons
ALL openers i heard trainwrecked multiple times.
Douchy McDouchebags
KIDSSSSSSS
this huge guy smothered in BEN GAY
Big top tent being ridiculously hot.

I have to say I did have a fucking awesome time!!

I arrived at 5:15 or so and partied in the parking lot watching out for tons of cops around that place. Put down a few Vodka Redbulls and headed inside.

Walked up and got right in. No line at all! Went to grab a beer and headed to Kyau & Albert. I thought there set was excellent by the way. I think the crowd would have been more into it if they were on a little later.

I'm not the biggest Second Sun fan considering that Antoinne (the singer from Second Sun) fucked my ex-girlfriend a year back in Miami, but I have to admit that they did drop it hard when they played Playground and Crush.

Cosmic Gate absolutely killed it!! That was my first time seeing them and oh boy did they exceed all of my expectations. They opened up there set with "Wasted" which was surprising to me but awesome. All I have to say is that when they played "Exploration of Space" I was loosing my mind. Definitely a night for the books!!

Above & Beyond were good for what I saw. I stumbled in to the main stage when they came on completely dehydrated feeling like shit( too much Redbull I think ) The place was packed which didn't help my situation much either. Highlights from there set for me was when they dropped Thrillseekers - The Last Time and Good For Me. Got incredible vids of both these songs too.

To be completely honest with you I can't remember the last time I had that good of a time at an Insomniac event. Way to go guys!!

Am I the only one who thought Hawtin and VonStroke absolutly killed it?

Posted by costizzle on Sep-15-2008 06:19:

claude von strokes opening song was sooooooo sick. i thought he was dope for what i saw

Posted by xIced on Sep-15-2008 08:22:

A cookie to anyone who can id this track from Claude VonStroke's set

Christopher Lawrence owned the night. He seriously rocked it this year.

Didn't get to stay for much of Above and Beyond, my friend got sick and we had to haul ass back to LA. Damn sushi for dinner.

Wasn't sure if I'd like it down in OC again after the dream shows downtown, but it was okay.

Von Stroke, Hawtin, and Deep Dish were great!!

The A&B, IM stage was borderline insane..... I felt like I was in a zombie movie with all the people laying around rubbing and sweating on each other like zombies in the 115 degree room... a huge cuddle puddle as far as the eye could see...

the 3rd stage(Junkie XL, Sharam, Digaltism), was dripping human sweat from the ceiling (also about 115 degrees in that room).

As you can see, thank god for Von Stroke, Hawtin, and Deep Dish. The best room of the evening...

BTW, I'm not a Manufactured Superstar fan, but they did put on a great show with a lot of energy and some sick, hard beats to pump every up. Pretty much everyone at the festival was at their set ('it was during the day and everyine was loungin on the grass). I wasn't very excited to have that stage as my view when in VIP, but it turned out to be a pretty sick stage too

Oh ya, one more note.... I hope all the ODs made it home in good health (as I saw tons of people that needed and were recieving medical attention).

F-ing Great Time, wish I could do it next weekend!!!!

there was so much good going on at Nocturnal. I'm really glad insomniac got it together and left the GIANT style event. Last years PVD greatest hits concert really hurt me.

hawtin, dubfire, sharam, Van stroke, Boris MD, CL, A&B all REALLY rocked.

but for god sake. PLEASE get infected mushroom off the big rooms and let a killer DJ close the night. I dunno if anyone else shares my thoughts, but i'm really tired of their same show all the time headbangers ball.

Posted by roxb0x on Sep-15-2008 18:27:

lol I was outside of the main room and could hear IM's set, and already knew that they were doing the same songs for (at least) the past 3 or 4 times they were booked in socal. Then again any new track they might have made will probably sound the same as their all their other releases.
