NYC Tap Water

quote:
Jay sez, "A new bottled water company is selling NY tap water in bottles and filling up people's empties as a way of spreading the word that tap is good, it's better for the environment than shipping bottles in from Fiji, it's fun, it's blablabla. You get the idea."

fiji water is really from fiji?
cause i watched a show on showtime a few years ago
and it was about how bottled water is bullshit
you have to read where it is "bottled in" cause i belive thats where the water comes from

either way nyc tap water is not that bad
the worst tap water i ever had was florida and california
tasted sooo bleachy

Mmmm, bottled chlorine and micro organisms!

I'm not a water snob but I probably haven't had NYC tap water since 4th grade. It tastes freaking terrible. I've had better in other states. Can't believe a company's actually trying to bottle and sell TAP WATER. Like people can't do that shit themselves hahaha What are they charging for? The bottle?? It'd better not be more than 25 cents! . If they charge any more than that they should at least tell people it's NYC Spring water

the tap water in nyc is some of the cleanest in the world. it's treated like 7 times before it comes out of the tap which is sweeeet.

Posted by euphoria on Sep-15-2008 13:03:

I drink the tap water but I also have my own filtered water jugs. I don't drink it straight from the faucet unless I have to. It's not horrible, but I've had better.

No its not. NYC's water is straight from upstate NY in the Catskills and does not go through any filtration.

NYC has some of the best water you can ask for. HOWEVER, the pipes in your building run a risk of compromising the taste. Thats the real issue, not the water itself.

City Taps Another Strength, Wins Drinking Water Contest
http://www.nysun.com/new-york/city-...ng-water/84802/

New York City, already the financial and cultural capital of the state, can add one more achievement to the list: It has the best-tasting tap water. The city beat out 150 other communities around the state to win the annual tap water taste test at the New York State Fair in Syracuse yesterday.

Mayor Bloomberg praised the city's Department of Environmental Protection, which manages the city's water supply, and credited it with the victory over the second-place finisher, Pulaski, a town in Oswego County with a population of about 2,400.

"Our drinking water system is the lifeblood of our City and the men and women of the Department of Environmental Protection, under the leadership of Commissioner Emily Lloyd, work tirelessly to uphold the high quality and integrity of our drinking water," Mr. Bloomberg said in a statement. "For New York City residents and our visitors, the choice between bottled water and tap water is as easy as choosing between a frozen pizza and a slice from a New York pizzeria."

Mr. Bloomberg noted that the city's water supply is unfiltered, which he said was a further testament to its quality.

The state health commissioner, Dr. Richard Daines, congratulated the city on its win over rival Albany, which took the best-tasting water award last year.

"Once again, this contest demonstrates that some of the world's best-tasting and highest quality drinking water is found in New York's largest city," Dr. Daines said in a statement.

The state Department of Health and the New York Section of the American Water Works Association co-sponsor the contest, which has run for 22 years.

I don't know, I just feel the weird taste of it. I've tried it many times and I just can't handle the bad taste. My roommate drinks it though, I guess it's a personal taste thing.

Posted by daydreamer on Sep-16-2008 19:09:

good to know, now i don't need to spend money on bottled water and just fill up at home...does this apply for brooklyn as well, or only manhattan.

New York city tap water, is the best water. I heard the poland springs is just new york city tap water.

Posted by Chaska on Sep-17-2008 02:33:

When I came to NY I wasn't used to drink tap water because of the cholera epidemic in Peru when I was growing up, and tap water in DC has high levels of lead. My roommate when I was living in Astoria turned me to it, and it's what I always drink (except for smart water every once in a while).

Vodka sounds pretty good though!

I like to fish in the reservoirs upstate, where NYC tap water comes from.

But I have heard that it is one of the best waters in the world.

Posted by daydreamer on Sep-17-2008 17:02:
