The Official NHL 2008-2009 Season

Ladies & Gentlemen.. The road to the cup begins!

Time to start our annual predictions.

The Wings more or less dominated throughout the last season, practically destroying The Penguins in the final.

Will this year be any different?

My money is on The Pens, as always.

The Wings are going to be hard to beat this season, as always.

Senators look strong this year, more physical than ever.

And for the first time in God knows how long, I think that The Caps might actually have a shot at the title.

As for The Rangers... I simply can't be optimistic, I'll leave that to vern.

Go Pens! Whoooooooooooooo!!!

All my optimism went down the drain when the Blueshirts let Sean Avery go

Nonetheless, looking forward to the season

Roenick, Ozolinsh.. Talk about getting old lolol.

Still I'd say you have one of the top 5 goalies in the league, Marleau and Thornton as centers. I'd be very positive if I was you.

Defense looks pretty solid too, is Blake signed?

They're my second favorite team after the Rangers. I grew up a big Owen Nolan fan

The Belfast Boy done good

I'm optimistic about my Oilers this season, we have some of the best young talents in the league and have added some experience and leadership in Cole and Visnovsky. Plus Souray should finally have his chance to make an impact after last season's injury nightmare. Pity we missed out on Jagr or Hossa though, that would have been awesome!!

The playoffs look like a realistic possibility and after that, anything can happen (a la 2006)

An Oiler huh?

Did you hear that Jussi Markkanen's four-year old fell out the window in Russia, and died.

Rest In Peace Little Man.

Aww dude, that's harsh

Jussi came in when Rolie got injured in Game 1 of the 2006 Cup finals and performed so admirably for a back-up goalie.

Very sad to hear that...

One of my best friends from high school died in a similar way. He was studying in St. Petersburg to become a diplomat and fell down the stairwell of his apartment block from the fourth storey. It was around a year ago now

Geesh, I just took a peek at the Edmonton roster, some players in there that I really, really like.

Penner
Cole
Hemsky
Horcoff
Souray

Impressive.

Don't know who Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers is, but your goalie section looks a bit weak.. imo

Dwayne played in Finland during lock-out, his showmanship was in a league of it's own. And a fine man outside the rink too, as far as I can tell from the few interviews I've seen.

Sorry to hear that mate.
I know how it feels to loose a friend.

Yeah goalie is a bit of a question mark. Mathieu Garon was excellent last season when it came to shootouts, but he still has a lot to prove. Dwayne's numbers last season were poor, and Drouin-Deslauriers has come up from the minors so he is too inexperienced to count on at the present time.

My younger brother is an avid Pens fan. He reckons they'll be a perennial contender for the Cup as long as they keep together their core of young superstars. Without a strong supporting cast, I'm a little skeptical.

Detroit are hard to look past, they have virtually the same roster plus the addition of Marian Hossa. It pretty frightening!!

Ya as far as I know Blake ( 1 year/$5 million), Boyle, Lukowich got picked up. Might be whats needed to shake the playoff monkey. That some good defence. Blake doesnt have many seasons left in him so I expect a machine out of him.

Im very positive about my team. Tons of talent. Torry Mitchell is out for 8 weeks so that sucks. I love watching Nabokov...the guy is outstanding.

Im pretty sure Garon will play about 60 games this year. He is a better goalie than Roloson. As far as the team goes, Cole was great pickup in the off season. The Oilers should make the playoffs this year I think.
Its pretty tough though, being a Flames fan living in edmonton. I get razzed lots, but the Flames have had the oilers number for years now.

A good day for the all the young Finns I taketh?

Posted by L.E.N. on Sep-27-2008 15:30:

Sharks looked great last night. When I was at the game on thursday, they had their AHL guys in against the ducks starting 6. All the ducks fans were thinking that it was some kinda ass kicking. Last night had some starting sharks and resulted in a 5-2 win.

The Finnish Flash is one of my all-time favourite players!!

Hopefully the Ducks can clear some salary cap space to re-sign him

They're pretty close to sealing the deal from what I've gathered..

The deal is sealed, signed for two years, let's hope he still delivers.

Being the legend that he is, he scored twice in his first game of the pre-season
