Another Greyhound Stabbing!
WTF another person got stabbed in the chest AGAIN! This becoming a trend pattern on long bus-rides??

Mike McIntyre THE CANADIAN PRESS WHITE RIVER, Ont. - A young man was stabbed in the chest while travelling through northern Ontario on a Greyhound bus Sunday afternoon - less than two hours after passengers say the attacker was put on board by police. The victim - identified by witnesses as an Asian male in his mid-20s was rushed to hospital but was expected to survive. Police arrested the suspect near the town of White River, Ont., just moments after the Greyhound driver allowed the man with blood on his hands to get off at the side of the highway. "We don't know why he was with the police or why he was able to get on the bus with a knife and get that by police," Winnipeg author Anita Daher told the Winnipeg Free Press late Sunday night. She was one of a dozen passengers who witnessed the terrifying incident, which immediately brought back memories of the July attack near Portage la Prairie, Man., in which a passenger was stabbed and beheaded on a Greyhound. "There's got to be some security measures put in place. We don't feel safe," said Daher. She boarded the bus in Sault Ste. Marie on Sunday afternoon, deliberately picking a seat near the front, believing she'd be safe if trouble broke out. Daher said she was returning messages on her Blackberry when she heard a commotion from the back of the bus just after 3 p.m. "I heard a shout, someone yelling that someone was having trouble breathing. Then I heard something about a knife," said Daher. She called 911, then handed the phone to the Greyhound driver. About the same time, a young man walked up to the front of the bus, blood dripping from his hands. "I could see the drops on the floor. He was quite concerned about the mess he was making," said Daher. The man demanded the bus stop and let him off immediately. The driver - apparently not aware of exactly what had happened - told him they'd be arriving in White River in just a few minutes. The town is about 300 kilometres north of Sault Ste. Marie. "Just hang on," the driver said, according to Daher. The man wasn't satisfied, saying "Just open the doors." "I told him to wait for the next stop. He turned and just kind of glared at me," said Daher. "People at the back were yelling `Don't let him get away', but the driver stopped and let him off," she said. Police apparently picked him up at the side of the road a short time later. The bus continued on to White River and stopped at an A&W Restaurant, where they were met by paramedics who rushed the victim to hospital by ambulance. 'He was conscious, but he was holding his chest and clearly in pain," said Daher. She believes the attacker also cut himself in the hand and even tried to clean himself up in the washroom before fleeing. The accused got on the bus in the town of Wawa under the direction of provincial police, said Daher. She believes there had been some kind of disturbance at the local store preceding his boarding. She said nothing unusual happened before the stabbing and doesnt believe the victim and attacker even knew each other. Two women travelling with the victim were very concerned, said Daher. 'This was all very surprising and very disturbing,' said Daher, who heard from another passenger that the attacker may have tried to stab him first before going after the victim. A spokeswoman for the Ontario Provincial Police would not comment early Monday on the suggestion that the alleged attacker had been placed on the bus by police. And a Greyhound spokeswoman said early Monday she cannot confirm any details because of the ongoing police investigation. Police seized the bus for forensic identification and brought all the passengers to the local detachment for interviews. Passengers were told they would likely be able to retrieve their possessions from the Greyhound late Sunday night before boarding a chartered bus to continue their journey. Earlier this month, the family of victim Tim McLean filed a lawsuit that alleged Greyhound and the federal government had failed to provide adequate security measures to the travelling public. They cited a number of violent incidents in recent years on board Greyhound buses. They also named the RCMP and murder suspect Vincent Li in the statement of claim, which seeks approximately $170,000 in damages. Li is charged with second-degree murder and remains before the courts. His mental health and whether he can be found criminally responsible is expected to be the key issue at trial. |
Oh you have GOT to be fucking kidding me.

ya, fuck!
Maybe Via Rail or another one of their other competitors are sending peopel out to do this stuff...... it could be a conspiracy to put Greyhound out of business
It just seems kinda ridiculous that this sort of thing keeps happening.... but I guess these type of buses do attract some sketchy people, from what I hear at least from friends
I'm curious to know why the police put this guy on the bus... With a knife

Copycat?
No copy cat, and no pattern. It sounds like the guy was a problem and cops put him on the bus to get rid of him.

| Police put stabbing suspect on bus A man arrested after the stabbing of a Greyhound passenger on Sunday was put on the bus in northwestern Ontario by police officers in the hours before the attack, other passengers said on Monday. A 28-year-old man is in police custody following a stabbing that sent a 20-year-old man to hospital in Sault Saint Marie, Ont., with minor injuries. Passengers on the bus said the attack took place about two hours after police officers put a man on the bus in Wawa, Ont. Sgt. Larry Ross with the Wawa municipal police told CBC News that police had helped a man obtain a bus ticket earlier on Sunday, after an earlier encounter with police. The man had been taken into custody early Sunday and charged with disturbing the peace, and was released later in the morning, Ross said. Early Sunday afternoon, he returned to the police station and asked to go to a hospital "for psychological reasons," Ross said. Police officers took him to the hospital, where he was assessed by a doctor. "The doctor on duty deemed there was insufficient grounds under the Mental Health Act to detain him, and [he] was subsequently released," Ross said. At that time, Wawa police used social-assistance funds to purchase a bus ticket for the man to help him get to his home in Manitouwadge roughly halfway between Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie, Ross said. "The subject had no transportation and a strong desire to go home, and the Wawa police addressed this need by obtaining a bus ticket via social assistance, which is a normal function for this police service for people who find themselves transplanted with a lack of money or for whatever reason," Ross said. The man was searched twice by Wawa police officers once before he was put in a cell, and again before going to the hospital and no weapons were found, Ross said. He was not searched before he got on the bus. "We had no legal grounds to search him at that time," Ross said. "The police don't have the authority just to come up to someone and search them for no reason. There has to be a valid, lawful reason for a police search." http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/st...ng.html?ref=rss |

Ugh ... thats messy
Paging Intangible or MikeyN ..... Picture ...
I bet this is standard practice. Police determine he's mentally sane and they send him on his way. Unfortunate result here, but I don't think we have enough information to point fingers at the police yet.
This is awful. I think the time for metal detectors is coming. I know there is a lot of difficulties with just putting metal detectors on buses, but something has to happen here soon.
Putting metal detectors on buses is kind of ridiculous. We've gone years without a major incident and then there are 2 completely random, unrelated violent incidents and everyone freaks.
It would just result in infinitely more headaches and BS for greyhound and everyone taking it. Do any of you really feel safer because no one can take liquid or gels on planes anymore? I don't.
