Anyone own the Vestax PMC-46?

Can anyone comment on the lack of a mid EQ? I was dead set on this being my next mixer but now I'm not so sure.

Anyone use one of these?

Yeah no shit right?! This baby is loaded with connections in back too, but I can't find the pic right now. I believe it has 2 line-ins and 1 phono per channel, XLR, efx in/out, all kinds of good shit.

I think it would rock so hard.

You can mix with a 2 band EQ - for example, to cut the mids you'd boost the highs & lows while reducing the gain. To boost the mids you'd cut the highs & lows while increasing the gain.

If I ever get around to collecting mixers, this one is assured a spot, along with the PMC37.

Thats a PMC 46 mk2 in your picture which is the one I have. Slightly different to the 46 mk1. Not sure if you are thinking about the mk1 or mk2?

I get around the lack of mid by using seperate EQ units for each source:


Thats not to say the eq is bad on it- far from it- its awesome. Really strong cut on them, and very smooth. if you want to tweak the mid, then cut the bass and give it a little gain, but believe me, you really won't need to very often. The crossover points on the eq are set really well....

-2 line in & 1 phono input per channel (3 way switch on each channel for input selector)
-2 mic channels
-Send/rcv, with each channel having a dedicated switch to send or not.
-Master output and submaster output (with option of outputting cue or booth) each with indivicual pan and level.
-PA (XLR) outs, line out, submaster out.
-A sub enhance filter (switchable) on the master output.
-LED meter for the cue
-Adjustable cross fader curve (not just a 3 stage switch, but a rotary knob to set exactly how much)
-Rotary cue selector and a few other bits and pieces.

It is also exceptionally well made in japan back in the day (by hand IIRC), built like a tank, and is sealed under the faceplate, so no dust will get inside. Open up the thing and you will see what I mean. It feels solid.

The curve on the channels is wonderfully set- very smooth mixes.

In short, its the best mixer I have ever used- and I have used pretty much every Dj mixer out there in a professional capacity- which is exactly why I bought it...

I think you sold me Freak. Give me one of these older sexy rotary mixers over any of the new shit that's around.

Did you buy yours new? What should I expect to pay used?

Freak you are so fucking oldschool - well impressive. I'm a vestax (japanese made) user too and was going to go for the 46 until I spent 3 years looking for my current one....

I cannot believe you have the intimidation kills - I used to have the Don II, and the Blue before that.

Took a LOT of searching & patience to turn up three sets of intimidation rotarys.
I have 2 sets of the instant kills lying around too, and I had a chrome don and a blue also

I've only ever seen them once before - it's probably easier to buy rocking horse shit.
