My girlfriend's mp3 player has just died (Sony NW-E002)

What the hell?

My girlfriend got for her last birthday a Sony NW-E002 from her brother that had just arrived from Japan. As far as I know, it always did what mp3 players were supposed to do. So, after my parents accidentally packed my mp3 player (a cheap one ) when they moved to their new apartment, and I borrowed my girlfriend's mp3 player. So far, so good.

After using it for a couple of weeks, it simply died. I just had some tea, came back to my office and it now refuses to turn on. I press "Play" and nothing happens. I thought the battery had died and I plugged it in my computer, to no avail. I prayed to all deities I could think of but, apparently, they're either unavailable or they simply don't perform miracles on electronic devices.

Any ideas on how I can bring it back to life?

I actually thought of doing that, but I'm afraid the copy machine beside me could blow the whistle and tell my boss I had sexually harassed the now deceased mp3 player

Most mp3 players work with a flash memory which has a limited number of write cycles per storage block. This means that after a certain period of time, writing and erasing information on them, they die.
