Politics of cooking for people/eating food people have cooked for you
dude, i cooked this nice meal (from scratch) last night for my man and as i'm serving it (before he even tastes it) he looks at it and asks if he can put some tomato sauce on it. i made stuffed green peppers with garlic red potatoes & peas. he wanted to put the sauce on the stuffed peppers but i was really proud of them already as is w/ all the seasoning i put in, etc...
we didn't fight about it, but i definitely let him know it was insulting and he laughed it off and didn't put the sauce on it, but i could tell he thought i was being bitchy.
my coworker said i should have just let him put sauce on it if that's what he wanted, but i think it's rude. to me, it's just common sense/manners not to completely alter the flavor of a nice meal someone has just made for you. salt & pepper is one thing but u want to douse it in some fucking VODKA SAUCE (that's what he had in mind cuz it's all he had in his fridge for sauces).
it's rude right? or is it really about who is eating it and they should just put whatever they want on it to make them happy?
You can't be upset or insulted at someone for wanting to jazz up their food. That's nonsense and stupid.
If you want someone to enjoy their meal, you need to let them eat it how they want with what they want on it, on the side, or in it.
The only way to be really insulted by someone after you've cooked is if they spit it out, turn their nose up at the meal before they take a chance on it, or say " i don't like potatoes so, no" even before they've tasted what you made. I've been cooking for years for friends, roomies + parents (and my moms a chef so if I'd be insulted by what she did..I'd quit lol) and if I were to stop someone from putting something to their preference on the food, I'd feel bad.

Your threads give me headaches.
why do men die before their wives? because they want to.
Maybe its rude but the person is not doing it to be rude.... so dont take it like that. I kinda feel what you are saying though as i take pride in my cooking. I would of just been like "sure"
u know in japan it's considered rude to even put salt or pepper on the chef's dish and he could throw you out if he wants?
all i'm saying is at least fucking try it first before you say something like that.
the only person who agrees with me on this is my dad and he's really into cooking too.
and i bet all those people on top chef would agree too

Maybe you are not a good cook?
lol
bitch please, u dont even know about my cooking skills.
Its a bit rude yes, but i only say so because you write that he asked about the sauce even before he tasted the food. I do agree that one should season his food to his taste, however he should have at least tried a bite or two before asking for the sauce. I am quite proud of my cooking skills, and while i dont mind people putting various sauces on the food that i prepare, but try a bite and sample how delicious the food is, before you put a sauce on.
Of course if I am preparing a really nice meal, i do all of the sauces from scratch anyway so even if they cover the food with the sauce, i find comfort that they enjoy the sauce that i carefully prepared so no ego bruising there
btw i think you should break up, this is a clear sign he does not love you

if a woman tries to come between me and my BBQ sauce, i dont give a fuck if she spent a week making that meal - i'm not eating it.
