If a promoter breaks a contract, what should you do?

Ever had a promoter breach a contract and not pay you?

What course of action did you take?

Im not trying to start a thread to bash anyone out there.....just wondering what action could/should be taken if this happends?

cry that you cannot afford legal recourse.

pro tip, always ask for half of the amount on the rider up front.

the end.

Cry a river, drink from it and drown the promoter

1/2 the amount was given upfront....called the deposit. Other 1/2 supposed to be given day of event....but instead the Djs were accused of taking equiptment and hence the rest of the amount was not paid. (and NO the djs did not take anything.....they are very professional)

Its just a shitty situation all around......

Break his knees.

Or use a middle-man to hire someone to do it, thus maintaining plausible deniability.

google search: minitek

you lost 50 bucks...those dj's lost a few grand.

happens a lot.

just be happy you got a booking (which is good on a resume) and realize unless you have a legal team you will not see anything.

occupational hazard that happens more often then you would think. Get over it or quit.

Well...Please know that I have not said how much my Djs lost on this. But it sounds like investing in a legal team is the way to go....besides the occasional bashing when necessary

occupational hazards are a way of life.....have not quit yet....and dont think I will!!!!

Posted by elFreak on Sep-24-2008 18:40:

just be careful, because legal action can also give you a bad rep even if you were right. You are not a list therefore very disposable.

how much did you lose?

also it will probably cost more than you lost...is it worth it?

On topic, sucks bro. I'd listen to Freak though

Posted by elFreak on Sep-24-2008 19:36:

on further inspection of the amount the only option is small claims court or live with it.

verbal contracts will mean you lose, i hope you have paper.

Posted by RealivzeChels on Sep-24-2008 19:45:

Yeah I would not be asking if it was only verbal.....learned to go paper long ago....

Thanks for everyone's imput...

I wish there was a "bad promoter" website that other agents/djs could go to and see what promoters have skipped out on contracts!!
