Politics of cooking for people/having guests over for dinner
This blatant ripoff of Slylee's topic deals with a quite different issue, reason why I thought it was worth its own thread.
Now that I'm satisfied with my apartment and soon to be in a very-long distance relationship, I thought I'd invite friends over for dinner every now and then to pass the time.
What are some interesting ideas for this kind of meeting? Preparing the meal with your guests is usually quite fun, for example, specially if it's something traditional (like pasta). The background music is also a nice touch - my friends usually like nu jazz and soft drum'n'bass because it makes them feel they're shopping or something
Other than having vodka sauce always on the table, what are some good things you can do when guests come over for dinner?

A plate of after dinner cocaine. Or instead-of-dinner cocaine. Whichever you prefer.

have each guest pick a wine and model an appetizer to compliment each one.
eaten over a long period of time you will be full and drunk.
win
profit
buttsechs.
Chip and Madden
never let other people near when you cook, they will make a mess of it. If you're sure you want them to come early have a Wii and a few group games ready so that they will leave you alone when you cook. Otherwise its better to just just invite them over about 15 minutes before most of the cooking is done, have dinner and then do some stuff.
Wine and/or cocktails + a big plate of stuff to snack on (cheese slices, bread, fruits, etc). Basicly keep them busy while you cook. Not a big fan of having people in the kitchen with me - they tend to just get in the way and screw things up.
have everyone help with every aspect of preparing the meal, ie the cooking, slaughter of the meal.. it will make everyone feel like theyve accomplished something together.
be sure to save the leftover blood for the orgy afterwards!
don't forget dessert.
whatever you do, just make sure you prepare stuffed mushrooms with crab meat/cheese topping.
my dad always busts that shit out at dinner parties and it's soo good.
buy it in a can and call it gourmet.
This sounds like a swell idea:

Good tips! Unfortunately, I'm afraid there's no room for buttsechs, being the good committed Lira that I am

gently pull out the stems of regular whole white mushrooms and you'll see
get some prepackaged crab meat (jumbo lump is best) and top it with some bri or bree however the fuck u spell it.
bake until the cheese melts and bam!
oh yea and season it a little. with whatever u want i guess. salt, pepper, etc..
fresh fruit and alcohol are key to any meal gathering after noon
if you're feeling ambitious, try to make dessert perogies from scratch
(my fave: blueberries inside, sprinkled with sugar and served with whipped cream)
master the dough making and you're set - that's more than half the battle

it's just whipping cream (in the milk section) and powdered sugar with an electric mixer for about 5 min. i can think of more fattening things for desert.
