[OFFICIAL] 2008 - 2009 Snowboarding / Skiing Thread

It's about that time of the year! Only 2 months to go until the beginning of the season. Let's share some vacation plans, meet-ups, and new gear.

2007 - 2008 Thread

This year it's whistler (again) and several trips to Colorado (fortunately i will be working from Colorado very few weeks this winter). I'd love to hit up Europe, but that may be too long for my work schedule. I'd be open to doing an early season Vermont day/weekend trip if anyone is down.

mountain creek most likely won't be open during thanksgiving. resorts in vermont certainly will be open, and hunter and windham will likely be operational (although they suck until mid december).

Renting a house in Vermont for the season. I'm totally pumped about that.

i plan on going to lake tahoe with a club that i'm a member of. they're quoting packages to tahoe for about 800 dollars. 7 days, 6 nights, air to sac-town, transportation to tahoe, 4 days lift that can be used interchangeably at heavenly, sierra-at-tahoe, squaw, kirkwood and alpine. they're also doing vail and jackson hole but tahoe's the cheapest of the three thus far.

mmm yeah, looking forward to the season with a fully rehabbed knee! lol at my going to utah to board only 10 weeks after surgery last winter.

*edit* oh duh, lodging is included with the package also

that's an amazing deal, it actually doesn't sound correct. Air alone should run about 400+. If you've never been to tahoe, the only mountains worth checking out are squaw, kirkwood, and alpine meadows. i would also take the 2 hour drive south to mammoth.

i think the club has some pretty good clout in terms of pricing. for local VT trips, it's 135-150 for lodging (usually at a lesser inn owned by the resort), two days lift, maybe breakfast - no transportation provided. i mean the tahoe deal is an estimate right now, so of course, subject to change.

the club's jackson hole trip is 935 for members, and pretty much the same deal (except jackson hole only lift tickets), with one night of riding at snow king thrown in.

for an extra 135 don't even think about it, go to jackson.

Ditto, Jackson is the tits PLUS the Tram returns this season!

my ride DH 06 is all fucked up. the second time using it in winter 06/07 i hit the nose on a rail and split the lamination. I fixed it for last winter, but I busted it again on a cliff landing in whistler. i'm super loyal to ride snowboards, which means I'm buying the 08-09 ride DH. I still have my ride delta binding, and my ride boots. Of course the anon googles - i picked up an extra pair at the Princeton liquidation sale last spring. Since i gots me a better job over the offseason i'm probably upgrading with some new pants and a nice jacket (probably playing it safe with either burton or convert).

Jerz, do you detune your board when you ride?

Posted by SFtrance on Oct-24-2008 23:34:

If anyone is up in Vermont give a holler. I'll be getting a pass to Stowe this year but will be making frequent trips to Sugarbush and Jay. Might hit Killington

no - i just don't tune my board. i've actually never sharpened my edges. I hear people bevel the edges, however, i would just ride a few times and the edges soften themselves. Unless you are hitting rails all day, in my opinion, detuning is a waste of money.

The one thing i should do more of is wax my board.

Posted by Stassi on Nov-26-2008 03:27:

Anyone go riding yet? I hit up okemo last weekend and the conditions were good even though only 15 trails open. This thanksgiving break a whole bunch of us are going up to tear it up.

Posted by Stassi on Nov-26-2008 03:29:

new bindings

new boots

im a huge fan of them both.

what the hell happened to all the snowboarders?????

I'm leaving for Whistler tomorrow at 7pm!!! I would be so much more excited if i didn't have to prepare for a job interview tomorrow morning (10am), write a cover letter to meet a submission deadline (5pm tomorrow) for an on campus recruiting event, and create a presentation for a partner at my job before 4pm. so much to do!!
