"Electrical cables fell at Eglinton subway station during rush hour leading to the stopping of service from Bloor to Lawrence on the Yonge-University line."

my friend that works at yonge and dundas (hes the guy that drums on buckets) says there was a shooting near by where a guy was randomly firing shots or something. that might be the cause of it.

Bad Day for Subway: Bloor and Yonge lines shut down during afternoon rush
It has been a tough day to be a subway commuter today. Earlier this afternoon, a portion of the Bloor-Danforth subway was shut down around Greenwood station due to a police investigation. Just as that was being cleared up, the section of the Yonge subway between Bloor and Lawrence was taken offline. Shuttle buses are in service, but they havent a hope of dealing with the crowds of displaced passengers. There are reports that signal damage at Eglinton is the cause of this problem, and if so, service may be offline for a while.

Passengers best bet is to go round the bend via Union and head north on the Spadina subway, transferring to east-west buses for the rest of their trip, but they should expect significant delays throughout the system as a result of this disruption.

i can only imagine. i was at finch going north at 10am and the bus was packed. didn't help my commute time that the asshole viva workers blocked every bus going in AND out of richmond hill centre for roughly 10 min each.

as soon as I heard about this, I took the Spadina line upto Downsview to get to where I needed to go.. probably took me an extra 15 minutes in total which in turn saved me likely more than an hour having to deal with that chaos..

i just don't understand why some people don't seek out alternate routes.. it's like this hive mentality that everyone thinks there's only one way to get from A to B

I did the same thing. The sheppard buses were rammed though so I walked across. left work at 5, got home at 7.

Not really - it took us 1 hour from Yonge and Queen to Avenue and St Clair last night at 5.30pm and then 45 mins from Avenue and St Clair to Queen and Pape at 8pm.

Journey 1 should have taken 10 mins and journey 2 should have taken 15 mins.

saw it at 530, walked through it, got on the bloor line and moved freely and happily to my destination

Posted by The Ear on Sep-26-2008 14:15:

That's why I have no desire to ever live along the Yonge line.

Green line all the way baby!

I took Queen from work to go to Yonge and Shepherd to my bfs place...I think I boarded the station at about 5:30. It seriously was my biggest nightmare because I am claustrophobic, and I also have a fear of big crowds..Not only the trains were so packed, we stopped at each station before unboarding at Yonge and Bloor for like 10 minutes.

I literally was sucked into different movements, people were very rude, kept yelling and pushing everyone...There were lots of cops..I tried to use a pay-phone to let my bf know to pick me up from Wilson instead of Shepherd line, but I couldn't even go down the escalator to the Bloor line...Very fucked up! It took me 15 minutes just to get out of the subway, and I walked to St. George instead...I officially hate TTC!
