-- New upgrade: mixer?
New upgrade: mixer?
ok... so excuse the fact that im making two posts... im simultaneously in the market for both a mixer and speakers. so im splitting them up to get specific info on specific things...
preface: i've had a sucky numark dmx-3002 since when i first started djing. it sucks.. the crossfader is crackly, the upfaders crackle at the very top... the eqs arent the best.
i use SSL, but as of yet don't use ableton. so, midi functionality would be nifty, but not necessary.
i (usually) spin using 2 decks, a 3rd input from my lappy, but my roommate also djs, and has 2 decks of his own, so ultimately, i'd like to tinker around with mixing on multiple decks, or spinning 2x4..etc.
3 channels are minimum.
effects aren't necessary, but they'd be a perk.
mixers in question:
mackie d.4
xone 42
rane tm57sl
denon 1500x
ecler nuo 4 (or possibly EVO 4)
pioneer djm 6/700... maaaybe 800.
rane empath
other suggestions welcome.
budget isn't so much an issue of how much i want to spend, more a question of what would be the best bang for buck.
furthermore, i can't test these out beforehand (no local guitarcenter or anything that stocks everything to tinker around with. and you gotta pay for special orders upfront.. lame)
so. advice? input? people selling mixers?
i would say go for the nuo4
Figure out if midi is a priority before you buy something. If it's not, I'd go for the Xone, Rane Empath, or either of the Ecler models. Check craigslist and ebay ... sometimes you can find some killer deals.
*obligatory xone vote here*
can't go wrong with xone for sound quality, durability and it's got lots of channels (62 and up). might be tad expensive for most bedroom DJs but heck, it sounds so damn good
go with the evo 4. they ecler's sound just as good if not better than the xone's and you get way more features for your money. also did i mention that the eclers are built in europe and the xone's are built right next door to pioneer in china

A&H or Ecler, imho.
Been playing around with my new Xone 62 and yes it is made in China, but I think it sounds better than the Ecler it replaced which was still better than most other mixers.

Hi guys,
Im out looking to get a new mixer, and Im thinking between Xone42 & Korg Zero4. Please suggest which one is better.
With A&H , there are no issues, but for the same price I can get a digital mixer which has Midi capability and its Traktor ready(KORG Zero 4)
Ive heard good things about the Korg, but its being discontinued by the Company and its up for sale, also I heard about a Hiss problem with it and also the build quality isnt half as compared to A&H.
Your inputs will be highly appreciated.
Thanks
You can't compare the 42 to an Empath, I'd most definitely get an Empath.
Xone:42 all the way. Amazing layout, 100% intuitive, fantastic sound, simple yet effective filters and an awesome X/FX (with USB Support) system.
Best bang for your buck, I managed to pick one up brand new for 950 CAD
I have a Xone 42 and an Ecler Nuo4, both awesome mixers! Love the filters on the xone.

| Originally posted by jayxthekoolest I just DJed on a Rane mixer, and, wow, the sound quality is just so much better. It simply sounds louder and perfectly clear. There's nothing I'd change about its sound. Rane mixers are also built like absolute tanks, so they'll never stop working on you. I'll definitely be getting a Rane mixer when I have enough money to buy a new mixer. EDIT: I typically use a Pioneer mixer, which sounds like garbage in comparison to the Rane. |
