obama supported by dance djs
I have noticed djs showing their support for obama in their sets lately. first i hear/see it in an adam freeland set, and then i hear a snippet from an obama speech played over the music in either a butane or francois k set (cant remember which one it was so you'd have to download both minitek sets, you'll want to do so anyway because they're both very good - see isnt that nice of me?) or maybe the speech is part of the actual track, not sure.
so, has anyone else noticed any other well known djs showing their support for a candidate? if so show the youtube clips or links.

How gay. I will never listen to an Adam Freeland set again.
That was actually kinda awesome
i had heard an obama clip a whiiile back in a set... prob won't be able to find it now.
it's an actual track.
there's another one as well:
Glenn Morrison feat Barack Obama - Contact (Airillusions Remix)
During last Mutek here in Montreal, I noticed that Flying Lotus supports Obama. He has this sticker on his laptop:

Thats idiotic on the highest level.
This, however, isnt.
Adam Freeland - Essential Mix 2003
first track: Saul Williams - Not In Our Name (Ninja)
lyrics:
we believe that as people living in the united states it is our responsibility to resist the injustices done by our government in our names.
not in our name will you wage endless war.
there can be no more deaths.
no more transfusions of blood for oil.
not in our name will you invade countries, bomb civilians, kill more children, letting history take its course over the graves of the nameless.
not in our name will you erode the very freedoms you have claimed to fight for.
not by our hands will we supply weapons and funding for the annihilation of families on foreign soil.
not by our mouths will we let fear silence us.
not by our hearts will we allow whole peoples or countries to be deemed evil.
not by our will and not in our name.
we pledge resistance.
we pledge alliance with those who have come under attack for voicing opposition to the war or for their religion or ethnicity.
we pldege to make common cause with the people of the world to bring about justice, freedom and peace.
another world is possible and we pledge to make it real.
sounds pretty liberal to me
I can see the purpose of sampling Obama speeches as opposed to, for example, GW Bush's voice...

Hahahahahahahahahahhaah at this thread
Fuck me , these Dj's should get a life
Thats it , im gonna do a show now , and if they want politics , ill shove a few government speeches in to liven up my tunez with the economic report on farming subsidies for fiscal year ending jan 9th 2009 or the benifical housing program to house all deadweights who get pregant on purpose for a house.
Fuck me , that should get the masses moving on the dancefloor!!!!!
Just when i though booze and fit girls was enough!
Freeland playing Aerodynamic? Gotta love it. However, I don't know about the O-B-A-M-A stuff over the top.
o yeah, because DJs are really the people I want to get my political opinions from
same goes for celebrities and other musicians exposing their political beliefs
yet i don't really see the big deal

what's even worse than those dumb campaigns with all the clowns screaming after every sentence are the people who actually believe that there will be a major change in the american foreign politics.
American so called democracy is laughable.

One of the things I really like about dance music is that artists seldom try to get political in the traditional sense. That's for daft rock stars who think they are more important than they are.
Oh and I'm pretty sure there's at least one Obama-themed release on beatport. I think it was called "power to the people" or something like that.

| Originally posted by jupiterone it really isn't about what mixes, we're not talking about water and oil here. music is a way to get ideas, opinions and beliefs across to either yourself or a public. it's not like this is anything new, i mean come on, politics have been feeding music for a long long time. i like people that try to get their point across through creative means. i just don't understand, why people get all crazy about something just because it is abnormal to a certain culture (DJ culture) that is just my opinion on the matter |
Yeah, pretty much.
