Dunno Are my days done with videoing at Guv?

So it's the beginning of night... about 11:30 or so I guess. I was schmoozing with the peeps minding my own business when all of a sudden these two security dudes ask me to come with them to one side. I'm thinking like WTF did I do? I thought it was maybe they didn't like my laser or something. But to my surprise they said that they wanted me to leave the Guv right now! Talk about totally thrown off guard with that one. After a bit of arguing, it was no use... I had to leave. All of a sudden this other guy shows up, not sure who he was, perhaps he was their boss or he worked directly for Guv. I tried to explain to him that I've been videoing there at least 3 years and never had anyone question me. The guy left then came back after a few minutes and said that I was not to record anything and I was allowed to stay. So I managed to get permission to put the cam in my car and re-enter. Man I was pissed!

I need to get a media pass so I can record once again. I've never made a penny from the videos and I do it for shear fun. So why has Guv suddenly have a change of heart? I've also made several attempts to contact ppl in Guv over the past couple of weeks but not a single person has replied to the emails.

I'd like to think that the thousands who've watched the videos has had a positive impact on Guv. I can't tell you how many PM's I've received saying that they came of from the States just because they seen my videos and had to check this place out.

You should try to work out a deal so they pay you to make these videos and then they can use them to their advantage.... I dont know if there would be some copyright issues with the DJs though

+1
write another email saying what you just said - that you're actually helping them with promoting for free!

so what you're trying to say is you've been recording video at guv for 3 years without permission from the management? and you're still whining about it after you got caught?

good luck with getting them to pay you when you've already pissed them off somehow.

as for making several attempts at contacting them over the past couple weeks and not getting a response, i would assume that they dont want to deal with you but i cannot speak on their behalf. if i tried contacting someone for two weeks and never got a response then i would get the hint.

To tell you the truth it's not like I smuggled the camcorder in over three years. Security, Guv's ppl and DJ's see the cam and me recording and have never been approached.

As for no response to my emails... maybe your right. Guv is so big and popular perhaps they couldn't care less about ppl like me recording the events. It would have been nice of them to at least acknowledge my msgs and give a reply one way or another.

It was funny to see how many ppl last night were videoing everything with their cell phones and digital cameras. Ppl were leaning over the DJ booth and recording closeups of Markus, even to the point of standing on the ledge of the DJ booth to get the best shots. All doing that while security stood by and watched.

Yeah he stood by because all those people were OK'd to take pics/record! I know I was there in the back. It's much less conspicuous when a fan brings their digi vs someone brining a highend camera, especially if they really don't have permission to record.

i dunno. i cannot comment on the situation itself.

but sometimes it is easier to just ignore messages, especially when they realize that you emailed a few of them. thats what i refer to as "breaking balls".

as for other people recording with their digital cameras, dude, you have a lot to learn. there is a HUGE difference between private use and commercial use. once your material qualifies as commercial use then you legally need permission from the property owner (or someone whom represents the owner. ie. management)

Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned by this I suppose. It's possible that ppl like Shaya and yourself have had some growing pains in the beginning. Maybe I just had it too good and took it for granted. This very well might be my wake-up call / reality check.

I still think Guv should've at least replied to my msgs to set the record straight. They should have the courtesy to at least do that.

I definitely agree with that.

+1....a response one way or another is the only professional thing to do. Anything other then that just shows a lack of professionalism and a lack of courtesy.

It's the guv - I wouldn't expect anything more than lack of professionalism and courtesy!

They are only extending to him the same courtesy he showed them when he recorded hours of footage and used guvernment trademarks without permission.

Do you know what a trademark is?

I think he meant the watermark - what Jay puts on his pics

but I don't remember seeing Francis using them

if you mean he recorded unauthorized video and published unauthorized video then i agree with you.

I think what guv should look into is a website like http://www.dancetrippin.tv/ .. it is pretty cool and has multiple cameras plus a camera guy walkin around. You never know Prometheus you could be one of those guys working for dancetrippin.

This is also a good idea since people are kinda showing the camera a good time instead of just sketching out.. i don't think anyone wants to see ppl sketched out at guv..

I have to say .. i quite enjoyed the sunrise set @LOL vid u made

I think what guv should do is to give EVERY SINGLE PERSON a camera and a camcorder, from the staff to the d.js, that way we can all take pictures/ videos of each other and forget all about the party...

C'mon now. Just for a second think about how it would be fun to try that just once... LOL! Can you imagine cutting and pasting that video together would be a nightmare. It sure would make a fun video when it was done.

Are you suggesting that as of right now, more than one person out of 50 at the Guvernment actually remembers the party?

To send a quick e-mail or return a phone call is not difficult to do....why intentionlly piss off a customer when a simple response with an explanation is all that is being asked for.

From the videos I've seen none of them portray the club in a negative way. If the videos are being used for profit/marketing reasons then the Guvernment has every right to not allow someone to video the performance. If its for personal use and they are still not allowing access with the camcorder then they shouldn't allow any recording devices into the club unless you have authorization from the club.
