Questions about DJing

I've been practising for abt a week now and still, my mixing sucks. I'm learning to beatmatch but overall it sounds like crap. Does the bpm have to be the same or can u mix a house track into dnb?
Do u have to wait a certain moment in the song to mix or can u do it anytime?

etc...

Any suggestions?

thx

i find the easiest cross genre mixing is hiphop to HHC

For beatmatching, the BPM have to be the same, but for mixing not necessarily.

the search fuction is horrible so I don't like everyone telling me to search when it doesn't produce any good results...so fuck off, get a life and stop acting like the fucking internet police (not just u)!!!!

Posted by Yohan on Oct-01-2008 01:58:

lol. it's so true. i can get away with not even bothering to beatmatch on CDJs. on the other hand, give me more time to play around with looping, sampling, layering and all that extra shijazz.

so, you're telling me you don't want to bother putting any effort in, not utilizing a forum that can help you more (and people on DJ forums are pretty good people who actually know stuff), attitude problem and you expect to get help?

Just how do you think we find the links that we refer you to then?

Quit your bitching & learn to type.

If someone refers you to a link, click on it & be grateful it wasn't a bitch slap.

Twunt.

You've only been at it for a week.. chill. Keep at it, it takes tiiiime. A week isn't time.

Maybe for the track you're cueing, find one that just has a simple beat at the beginning like a kick drum that doesn't really change too early in the track and that remains simple? I dunno, try using a minimal track that meets those requirements LOL

hahahaha

or play around with traktor on your computer. learn how tracks work, ya you can auto beat match but it might be good for now so you can take one part out of the process and learn how tracks layer and where and why. thats how i started. played on traktor for 3 years recording "sets" and then listening to them and understanding where i f'd up. then took up cdjs last year and it came like nothing

very trueee. i was at my buddy gilles bernard picking out tracks to do this weekend with the violin and he begun to teach me a little about ableton... wow.... way easy. well i guess you have to put in time setting the songs up but after that, def easy to throw solid sets together. fuking felix cartel was in london last week, no headphones, just his midi controller. most of the crowd was eating it up and i was just standing there shaking my head

1 week? lol
What Aleksandra said - you're gonna need a hell of a lot of patience and way more time than 1 week.

Do i have to wait until a certain moment during intercourse to cum or can i just pre-maturely ejaculate at any time?

etc...

Any suggestions?

thx

before you even touch your cd players again, you should learn some basic music theory.
figure out what 4/4 means.

....you were asking about "phrasing" when asking about cumming. If you want to see the twinkle in your boyfriends eyes while both of your blow loads on each other, you should read up on that too. Google has lots of info.

Guido Schneider was doing the same thing at minitek in nyc. It takes the fun out of dj'n.

Practise! Practise! Practise!

-Don't expect much results after one week, keep going and then check back in 3 months.

-To keep things easy for now, use the same genre and try to use simple beats.

-Use tracks that start on a kick, rather than intro ect...

-Yes, you need to learn about bars (every 4 beats) and bring a track in or out and the begin of a new 8 bar phrase. Listen to your track, this is where something new will be introduced to the track or where something is taken away.

-Have fun!!!!!
