'Undecided' - newbie / first post - vocal trancer
Hey everyone, just joined the site - was recommended to me by a fellow electronica producer out in LA.
Here is a link to a track I have been working on. I would appreciate feedback on the mix. No matter how hard I try my mixes always sound 'closed up' so any tips on EQ would be fantastic.
I dont have any releases under my belt and I would like to get this signed when completed.

Any thoughts? I appreciate the time.
Cheers
I like it a lot. It sounds very aesthetic. I'm not sure if the vocals are fitting quite right though EQ wise. But I don't know if I'm even right on that statement and not sure how I would fix it. I suck.
Welcome mate! Will give it a listen now.
Thank you for your responses. Looking forward to some more feedback.
Yeah, man - this is a killer track! I like the darkness of it and the energy. Nice vox, too, and I'm a sucker for good female vocals. I have no criticisms of the arrangement, melodies, etc., but I agree that the mix needs some better EQing - it's very midrangey and lacks punch in the bass and clarity/presence/air in the highs. It sounds like maybe your mixing/listening environment is less than ideal. A few solutions:
- treat your room (expensive and, depending on your living situation, maybe not an option?)
- use reference tracks (i.e., add a commercial song that is similar in tone/style to the one you're creating and listen/compare it frequently to match the sound of your track while you're EQing/mixing)
- check out Har-Bal. It lets you see the overall frequency response of your master track, make global changes to it, and even compare/match it up with commercial tracks.
HTH and keep up the good work. Once you get the mix cleaned up, I don't see any reason why this wouldn't get signed.
very good,
your very modest, this is well produced and easely sighnable. i like the vocals, thay have a darkish twist to them, it remieds me of a tune i have herd before though. the one with the lirics "piece by peice" and so on, cant remember the name of it. it ticks all the boxes well done 10/10. it nice to get some fresh sounds on here. chaw 4 now.
Thank you all for the positive feedback. Its very encouraging to read.
I went back and try to apply some of the things you recommended.
- EQ on vocals: opened up a little of 10Khz for air
- EQ on pads: opened up about 4 dbs at 12Khz for air
- EQ on mix: +2dbs at 80Hz, +3db at 7Khz, +2db at 12khz - overall a smiley curve / loudness type curve.
I also looked at some synths that worked in the midrange and scaled those back alittle for more breathing room.
I think the mix sounds a little more open now with less emphasis on the mid range:

Anyone else have good experience with hal-bar? Sound on sound gave it a good review and it is inexpensive at $95...
yeah, pretty gooooooooD
i would prefere more hihat lines
but still its a pretty good track , nicely done!
congrats =)
Naught tune mate really like it... the end bit is well good when you get the extra textures in there
verey good.... vocals could be a bit louder and piercing if you know what i mean
spot on otherwise
this is really, really good. i agree that it is too midrangey, the bass & the highs get lost in there but you can still tell that this is a killer track. awesome job, would definitely buy this if it were signed! good luck!
Gabriel Cazali, ENZ83 and Josh Rising: thank you so much for your feedback; its very motivational to get +ve feedback and it makes me feel that my efforts are paying back
Does anyone know any labels that would be interested in this sound? Is there a list of labels that you guys pitch to when you are finished with a track?
Cheers
Excellent tune, 2 things that make this track stand out from the rest:
1. The Eastern/Asia atmosphere (chords/melody)
2. The out of this world Vocals.
Combined top notch.
2 tips:
1. send you track to some mastering studio's for feedback and consideration
2. Choose your label wisely. I would think this would fit either Armada or AnjunaBeats for starters.....
Hey Raphie - I just submitted to the two labels that you recommended. I will keep my fingers crossed
I didnt send out for mastering before doing so; what mastering studio will give you feedback or consideration? I have a feeling that the label guys can tell if there is juice in the track or not...
Its exciting... In the meantime I am working on another track which should soon be ready for posting here.

hey mate, nice work. reminds me of one of robert gitelmans tracks. im sure some label would want it. goodluck
VERY Nice work mate,
Bass drum: Compress that, needs to be tighter and add some low end EQ
The Mid range synth that is off beat (evolves in to your theme) could be wider within the stereo field - add some stereo delay. Bring that up in the mix too.
Vocals are great sounding...
send me your remix pack!
Using Reason it sounds like?? ;-)
msz: Glad that you like it mate. Hopefully it will be up someone's alley!
Bushi: Thank you for the mix tips. I will look into the compression of the lower end. I have actually tried to narrow certain elements down, as a lot of times my mixes can sound very spread open. I actually dont use reason, and never have. I am on cubase 4 and have some software and hardware synths and preamps. Often curious if reason is an easier program for dance and electronica.
Really appreciate the tips and everyone's responses.
let me tell you this. reason includes all the tools you need
Since I have never touched Reason I know nothing about it. What does Reason do that Cubase does not? In other words, why would someone spend the money to buy Reason if they have been using Cubase. I would honestly really like to know...
that i could not answer, ive never used cubase. doesnt really matter which daw you use, there is a lot of different ways to achieve the same result. Its best to use what youre most confident and comfortable with, as you just wanna make music.

theres a demo maybe you could have a go, try out the redrum to load up samples and percs, and try some of the synths.

This sounds like southern sun the melody.
The track is very well composed. The vocals are great nice depth.
The over all elements and the sounds are great.
Good luck on the release this track has potential to be a great one!.
Cheers mate !
This is an insane track.... DuDEEE do you have a remix pack for this? I would like to give a crack at this...
Owsey, godsend, avengle: thank you for the good feedback. This has gone down much better than i originally expected.
Avengle: when you say remix pack, do you mean midi parts? I would have to go back and see what midis I have saved. I kinda bounce things to audio and keep saving new versions of the project as I go along... i guess not organized in that way!
I think he is speaking of a vocal remix possibly lol i think...
ill give it a shot if u dont get it signed
! good day!
Hi. Excellent track, but it could benefit alot from a better mix. Try to use more reverb and delays on some sounds, like the piano and synths. The brassy synth at the beginning of the sample comes to mind. It sounds a little dry.
Separate the sounds in the stereo field. A stereo expander on the pads could work for example.
Give the bass a boost. Maybe some distortion and compression too, to give it more warmth.
Oh, and welcome to TA.
