Ah, memories of when the Simpsons was utterly brilliant.

I'm going to track down a couple of more seasons on DVD after work this afternoon.

That's when things started getting dodgy for me - I'll probably grab it, but for me, the cream of the crop for Simpson's episodes runs from about season 3 to season 8 or 9.

I really want to grab a used copy of season 7 just because it will be cheap and I need the second part of the "Who Shot Mr. Burns?" episodes (I've got Season's 3-6).

What!

Where the hell is Jack Bauer!

I loved the Simpsons until my freshman year of college. There was a season premiere or finale (i forget which) and I was all hyped up for it. It ended up being this lame ass episode where the family hopped on a train with hobos and there were 3 mini-stories, each with the family playing roles in well known folk tales.

One of the worst episodes I've ever seen and a definitive downturn imo. There've been a few good episodes since, but few and far between.

Oh sure, Ill weigh in as a fan:

23. Drew Barrymore - Sophia Krustofsky
21. Meryl Streep - Jessica Lovejoy
20. Martin Sheen - The Real Seymour Skinner
18. Pierce Brosnan - Ultrahouse 3000
17. Rodney Dangerfield - Larry Burns

I've really been itching to buy the whole series of the Critic on DVD lately as well - but just haven't had the money.

Even the the number of Simpson's episodes that are decent has been reduced dramatically, it's still pretty amazing that the James L. Brooks and Matt Groening were able to take part in creating three animated shows as awesome as the Critic, the Simpson's, and Futurama.

right about season 10 is when it started to get hit and miss.

treeboo - you're probably talking about the finale of season 12 "Simpsons Tall Tales"

Also, there were a lot of good cameo's of actors and musicians as themselves on the show. Something this list obviously excludes.

Aye that's the one, I just wiki'd it with intent to edit.

While we're discussing animated series DVDs, one series Id love to see is Daria. I know a few episodes are available for purchase, but having the whole collection at the mercy of my wallet would be awesome.

I'm sort of glad they excluded portrayals of self. I'm sure there have been good ones, but I cant recall any of them. I much prefer when the actors flex their voice talent rather than their social notoriety.

Would love to hear some opinions on good self-portrayal though.

what was the other one MTV (maybe VH1?) had aired for a bit... with a fucked up family of ducks. i used to love that shit.

After Phil Hartman died, that's when the show wen't downhill for me. His characters were used fairly often, and some of the funniest moments came out of either Troy Mcclure or Lionel Hutz. He also did the voice for the Monorail conman Lyle Lanley.

i love the musical guest stars.

last night "Trash of the Titans" was on. With U2 guest-starring. Homer runs for Sanitation Commissioner, and crashes a U2 concert to promote himself.

While Bono is all about letting him speak because it's "for earth!" and all that junk, two other members are like "fuck this, let's go to Moe's for a pint". the fourth member (i think it's clayton) asks.

"Can I come with."
(pause)
"...No."
So he mutters -
"...Wankers."
