I just wish I could get a quality slice of New York pizza in Wisconsin someplace that isn't two hours away.

There's one place in Madison that I think nails it, but other than that - meh.

Thankfully we do have a few places here that have absolutely epic thin crust pizza, so that fills the void somewhat.

I was in San Francisco Saturday. I definitely took advantage of the small fast slice pizza shops. $3.50 a slice.

Coal oven pizzas ftw

few places really get a thumbs up from me as far as pizza is concerned, because just the tiniest detail in a certain ingredient can totally ruin it for me. this one place here, which is the only place i would buy pizza from (really cheap too, 8$ for a large, any kind) is owned by this fat italian guy, awesome dude, awesome pizza.

plus, some of the other stuff that compliments a good pizza...garlic bread. ohhh man

Hawaiian pizza is the best.... If you dont agree, you are a terrorist

One of my favorite parts about Amsterdam was the proficiency of both relatively decent (though utterly commercial) "New York Pizza" stands as well as the little, family run Turkish pizza restaurants that dot the city (particularly Leidesplein).

Sooooo tasty.

God I can't wait to go back.

the pizza i know of in europe is rather shite. there's this one place that uses a thin layer of ketchup as sauce, then ketchup again on top

odd

Yup, it's Vesuvio They make it on one of those wood ovens or "fornos". And they've opened a new restaurant near where I live in Carretera a El Salvador

Best. Pizza. Ever.

Seriously.

You dont know what pizza is until youve been to NY. Its a pizza war, but the front runners are always:

Grimaldi's
Di Fara's
Lombardi's
Tottonno's
Ray's Famous

Unless youve experienced that, you dont know what pizza is.

Have you tried Luzzo's in the East Village? They're really good too.

Amsterdam's "New York Pizza" was so awful I stopped eating DESPITE having hardcore munchies.

The Kebab places are also pretty bad there, normally delicious Doner Kebab is cut striaght from the skewer into a crispy bread or pita/lafa. There it's already cut then heated up in some sort of microwave/oven? Also horrible ingredients. Plus it costs fucking 6 Euro by now. Best Kebab is obviously in Berlin but also here in Vienna.

Only Burger King for me in Amsterdam!

There's a small pizza by the slice place not too far from my place...but it's run by Mexicans. I don't think I'll be going there.

Why 'obviously'? Kebabs aren't exactly German ciusine I would have thought a real kebab in Turkey, Greece or Lebanon would be better?

Posted by bas on Oct-08-2008 07:16:

My mom makes better kebabs than the damn Krauts
