Oktoberfest

So it's like a week away and they've already started setting up the downtown core.
Any of you Torontonian's making the treck down?
Who's going to what?

You can't go wrong with a week that celebrates beer drinking and schnitzel.

I have never been. Something tells me you have to be German to celebrate otherwise it is just an excuse to go out and drink!

Sasha its more about there being a large german population in that area and the same way other cultures celebrate their heritage here (eg. taste of danforth, fiesta in little italy, etc etc), the german festival is oktoberfest...

either u go or u dont....simple personal choice

Then don't go.

This ISN'T Europe, but deal with what you have, and have fun doing it. Honestly I love ya bud, but you can be a touch cynical sometimes. Not everyone has the means or desire to go all the way to Munich to go to a german beer festval. Canadian Oktoberfest does most of us just fine. It's a taste of something we might not otherwise choose to go out of our way to do on our own.
You should can the snotty euro-tude, bitch, and come out for a beer.

Yeah yeah, I love the EU more and more everytime I go but why not enjoy what you have here a little bit?

Nuit blanche was decent, we need more of that.

Posted by Capo di tutti on Oct-08-2008 17:54:

Lots of HOT eastern euro girls in KW though...

I know from experience!!

a little polka could be a SMALL price to pay for some premium PolkaPunani!

jk!?!?!?!

Posted by LKD on Oct-08-2008 17:57:

LoL

Kitchener has the biggest (and probably the best) Oktoberfest outside of Germany.

There are dozens of halls and arenas set up, not to mention the downtown core. Have you been to all of them? Last year I went to the alpine club for some 'authentic' German Oktoberfesting. This year opening night at Concordia should be good times.

But hey, it's just an excuse to drink copious amounts of beer no matter where the fest is held.

That's incredibly snobbish of you. I suppose the Germans should have never written operas because they were really just a poor attempt to copy the Italians, nor should the Russians have bothered to build factories because it was just a poor attempt to copy the British. Get your head out of your ass.

its not "Copying" if its celebrating the same aspects with the same culture as the original while blatantly honoring the original..

Then perhaps I should have said; I suppose all people should immediately abandon all traditions from their ancestral homes once they move to another land.

regardless; Sasha's statement was pure elitist bullshit... "it's not the original so it's not good enough."
