VST custom Presets in Cubase - where they stored?

I'm about to rebuild my system but need to know my presets for my synths will remain intact, you know the ones you can store for each VST within cubase by pressing the small disk symbol pictured below...

I'm not talking about the VST's own presets either.

I thought they were stored in my docs , but they arnt, I've heard saving the project as a project will save them but wanted to know for sure...

They will be stored where ever you saved them. When you hit the disk icon to save an instrument or a preset, where does it open up to? For me, I save everything in a folder called Preset Settings so when I wipe my system and re-install an OS, I just copy that folder. All your presets should be in the folder you saved them in. I know that sounds really obvious but maybe I'm not understanding your question then.

Haha yes its actually when I press "Store" it dosnt actually ask for a location it just asks for a name and adds it to the list that appears when you press the disk icon...

I know the option your talking about but I just got in to the habit of using store instead...

A sure way to find the file is this. Save a preset, then immediately do a search of *.* on your computer for files modified by date and enter the current date. Sort by modified time and at the top of the list should be your file. Using the "Details" view will show you where it is located. Hope that helps.

C:\Documents and Settings\"Username"\Application Data\Steinberg\"cubase sx 3/4"\Presets

All sorted by plugin.
You'll also find your custom templates there.
